No Simm in there so Woolf wasn’t dropping hints when he mentioned him in relation to options at centre. Welsby or Costello as centre seems to be the main choice.

Yes some smoke & mirrors perhaps or maybe appeasement on the back of some questions behind the scenes? He can only be hoping the return of Coote will stitch the back line together but it’s anyone’s guess about how close to full fitness he’ll be not to mention him being in the groove with his timing. Could well be a long afternoon but Coote has to be a positive.

No inside knowledge but Ashworth has impressed in last couple of reserve games so would not be surprised if he features.

#would not be surprised to see this game cancelled as all footy has now been cancelled#.

Just a wild question is anyone on here not going to this game due to the fear of Coronavirus?

So exactly how is a young lad with what looks like a total lack of confidence, who’s poor under the high ball & lacks any pace or specialist skills at centre going to learn by his mistakes? Let’s hope Coote is up and running to hold things together.

Dropping a young lad can dent his confidence which at that age means more than some people think. Hes played center before so hes more than capable to covet their. Plys cant deny the lads got talent

But he’ll never ever be a centre so why force fit him there now which is alien to him. He’s 18, he’s no right to be picked every week especially when to be brutal about it he’s been poor & full of errors. He’s had a run in the first team & nows the time for him to reflect and regroup & get his confidence back somewhere other than in the 1st team away at Cas. I can’t believe he’ll be shoe- horned into centre, further I can’t believe anyone would be happy about it.

Big questions of the coach playing welsby out of position & form. Leaving Simm who is a centre in the reserves who’s scored 29 tries in 25 games in his first year age 17 at that level then again last year bettering that with 30 tries in 20 games - age 18. Surely it’s time the lad got a chance? Especially after playing 4 games on loan at Leigh last year and scoring at that level too at 18.

It’s certainly no worse an option than Welsby. We haven’t seen the team yet so I still have hope there’ll finally be some sense. If these lads have a squad number they’re entitled to a crack when circumstances allow, not to be left kicking their heels while another lad is shuffled round the team into positions he’s not equipped to play. This is supposed to be professional sport, the best platform in the country, not an ongoing development opportunity for a selected few. You’re only as good as your last games & on that basis something needs to change. Our wingers aren’t scoring tries and sounds like we’re considering playing a non-centre to supply them, it’s absolute madness.

Wellens was another youngster to play a few positions when he was coming through,i remember him playing wing, scrum half and even hooker before he was a regular fullback. Like you say it is about getting the talented kids game time and match experience

Spot on legman. We’re struggling to create and score in the backs and we’ve got this lad who’s saints through and though sitting in the reserves. I don’t understand what he has to do to get a shot. If he can’t get a chance with Percival out, he’s not going to this season which is crazy to me. The fact we are playing welsby in numerous positions just so he can get a shirt is ridiculous. Simm is the stand out player from that age at academy if you were to pick 1. Played for England at all levels and has the stats of a real star. I don’t know why we’re being like this with one of our own, his grandad won both the lance Todd and Harry Sunderland trophy whilst playing for saints! Just seems unfair.

You’ve both mentioned a few names there which is fine. You mention giving the kids a go well I also agree with that, fact is it’s not about kids, it’s about kid, singular. Nobody else gets a sniff while Welsby is moved around into positions they might fill. It’s not a balanced approach and must be massively frustrating to others in the squad. His performances have been woeful, he’s had his turn, enough is enough.

Fair comment and correct we have just singled out welsby when both dodd and simm need games. Against hudds i was calling for simm to play center

Said it before and I'll say it again..square peg in a round hole. Youlightupmysenses, your stats are correct with regards to Simm. Not only that but he was singled out for his outstanding play by the Leigh coach whilst on dual reg. You have to feel for Welsby at the moment. The lad was overhyped from the start. He's getting slated now after a few bad games. I agree with others that he needs time out, but instead he's being played in a position that doesn't come naturally to him whilst we have a naturally gifted centre on the sidelines. Costello had a good game for the reserves last weekend but Simm is class. Maybe KW is waiting to give him his chance in a less intense environment? Let's hope that's not too far away because there isn't any more Simm can do to prove himself. He must be frustrated and disappointed but the reserves have a game v Bradford this week and I'm sure he will give 100%

Must admit, I don't want to jump on Woolf but you're right. Neither Welsby or Costello are what we need right now so unless Simm has upset Woolf in some way then I don't see why he shouldn't get a chance and if that's the case then why did he give him credit in his interview?
As far as Dodd goes, I know he's destroying the reserves but as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I seen him out and he just doesn't look anything like big enough, I'd be happy to be proven wrong on that though.
