There are people with short memories here. Wheeler, when fit, was a class act. Unfortunately, his injury record seems to outweigh his abilities

Agree with this and hopefully it means Dodd is about to be promoted?

Had a dream last night that Saints resigned Mal Meninga to cover at centre! Now it’s turned into a Nightmare😂

My memory must be deficient then because I can’t remember Gary Wheeler ever proving he was a “class act.” He had a couple of decent games in my opinion.

I thought this was a wind up yesterday when someone told me and dismissed it but it seems to have legs. Surely he won't be considered to be anywhere near the first team unless he proves himself in the reserves and most likely he'll be going into the reserves and someone being promoted from there. I wouldn't be against that providing he doesn't cost much.
IF he goes into the first team I'd be seriously annoyed.

He was a very promising youngster. Problem is he’s 30 now!

What surprises me most about this (if true) is that when he left he and his girlfriend at the time were scathing about Saints as a club and how they treated his injuries.

It does seem to have legs though as there are some decent journos reporting it.

Nor me. He was very ordinary, had one or two good games which seemingly fulfilled his ‘potenshul’ in the eyes of a small but significant number of followers. Average player at best.

We took a lot of stick when he signed for us, I just saw him as a squad filler in a salary capped sport ( although that doesn’t apply to us) don’t see your signing him in any different light. Honestly feel sorry for him “if it wasn’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all” as someone once said.

I’ve always felt sorry for Wheeler and his injury problems but I’m surprised at this news. Maybe he is just signing to provide occasional cover. I’ve already posted this on another thread but maybe Josh Simm is in the running this week:

I’m happy to echo this after my initial reaction. However if we bring a mature player into the reserves set up I would have expected it to be someone to also act as a mentor to offer some guidance to the younger players as part of their unofficial role. I don’t know GW personally & have never interacted with him but others may offer some insight into whether he might be the type of individual to offer this up?

Playing in the first team under any circumstances I would see as a failure of the club to manage itself in terms of the players brought in & youth development.

I am not going for or against the signing but I remember him as a very promising young player , I also remember a Warrington supporter one of those who does to all of Warringtons games saying to me when they signed him " do I think it is a mistake " my reply was " if he can get himself fit and regain his best form and ability then you have got a fantastic player " it was always up to him.

    RYAN HOFFMAN - WIGAN
WIGAN V ST HELENS - SUPER LEAGUE
DETAILS OF CHARGE / REASON FOR NF :
NFA. Player putting pressure on opponent kicking, makes contact with opponent, no contact with head or standing legs,

    DECISION:
    No charge

    INCIDENT:
Dangerous contact in 31st minute (Wheeler)

    Wheeler couldn't run a bath.

At fifteen or sixteen he was a brilliant prospect, good on his feet and good pace. By the time he was eighteen other players had overtaken him, Gaskell was a much better all round player. You may or may not know but Wheeler when he was a teenager was offered around £30K to sign for one of the London based R.U. clubs I think it was Saracens, but may have been Wasps. I bet he wished he had taken that offer.
Anyway good luck to him but I really can't see him doing anything.

You can post that all you like but we know it's a load of rubbish. How ever you spin it ,it was a blatant shoulder to take out a player that was bossing the game. Just because the disciplinary didn't ban him doesn't make them right. There was a crackdown on late hits on kickers, players were getting binned and we even had Jamie Lyon sent off for it. Yet all of a sudden a late shoulder was fine.

I think even if you asked Wiganers who saw it they would say it was late and dirty , I watched it after the game with a couple of neutral and I don't mean Saints supporters and as soon as it happened the both shouted out whos that dirty so and so.

& Benny Flower's just got a lenient ban for a cannonball tackle - ok though because of his "excellent" disciplinary record......

Please stop defending the thugby that your team is the original & perennial exponents of.

Is it actually recorded anywhere or does anyone have it?
