As long as Walmsley plays I would fancy us to win this one. Should be a good game, though. Wish it was tonight on tele so we've got the 8 day prep for the WCC but at the same time it's better for fans travelling over to have it Sunday at least.

Both teams got a few missing so no one has any excuses really. Expecting a much improved performance from last week and looking forward to seeing how we respond as we haven't had to do that too much in the last 18 months!

Would change it up this week and go Smith first and then Bentley off the bench, try to get off to a quicker start in the ruck and get an early lead.

Hull fan in peace here! Some changes to our squad that we perhaps were not expecting. Savelio now has a knock and Faraimo still has a groin complaint.

Missing Manu Ma'u, Chris Satae, Albert Kelly, Andrew Savelio, Bureta Faraimo.

Assuming Walmsley is going to play a part I’d start him on the bench:
Welsby, Makinson, Naiqama, Costello, Grace, Lomax, Fages, Lees, Smith, Thompson, Taia, Peyroux, Knowles

    Subs: Walmsley, Ashworth, Bentley, LMS
To miss out: Dodd, Nisbet, Paulo, Amor
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Would move Naiqama to FB and Welsby to centre.

I would have Smith and Walmsley sat on the bench for that 20 min first quarter and give Bentley and Lees a start to the game. Welsby should be interesting he's a quality player and that type of player learns from their errors so I'm expecting a very involved game from him to help our centres/wingers.

For me we need to drop Ashworth and play Amor as the latter can do hard yards in what is going to be a tough middle.

    Think Woolf will be conservative

Welsby FB , Costello Centre, Amor for Batchelor , Bentley still at 9. Knowles for Paulo.

    Personally would go

Lomax FB , Welsby Centre, Dodd SH, Smith Hooker. Amor for Batchelor , Knowles for Paulo

Evidence suggests that Naiqama is more suspect under the high ball than Welsby while his track record of playing centre inside Makinson is excelllent so I can’t see any benefit in moving him to fullback.

No idea how we will line up in the backs, but at least the pack looks decent this week.

I'd play T Mak at FB before Naiqama if it wasn't going to be Welsby.

Me too but would play Welsby there and show him that we trust him there and he’s allowed to make mistakes as he learns.

I don’t like Bentley as a 9 but would be tempted to name him there against hull given size of their team, poor weather and other forwards coming back from knocks (more versatile than Smith). He can spell with Knowles there.

I think he might put Dodd in because we look like we will struggle for a kicker.

Seem to remember Welsby kicked goals when he was in the Academy.

Makinson to play fullback when we're defending and switch to the wing when attacking?

Personally would keep Walmsley away this week and make sure he is good to go next week

For once, take your rose tinted Welsby and Blackbrook glasses off. Last seasons goal kickers for the Academy were Dodd and Simm, the season before it was Hazard and Simm.

You need to read my posts correctly, I said he kicked goals in the Academy. In 2018 he scored 20 tries and kicked 10 goals for the academy side. I'm not bothered who the other goal kickers were because they are not serious contenders for the first team just yet.

Seems about right dropping Ashworth and giving Paulo another chance, hope Smith comes off the bench after 20 mins instead of 60 mins as per last week.

Can't find a live match thread

At least the performance is a bit more settled than last week even if the rugby, at least according to the radio commentary, doesn't seem scintillating. Bound to be a bit of this before Woolf's way of doing things settles into the team and the team adjusts after Justin leaving. A bit of patience and positive to see that the defence seems to be stronger than last weekend.

120mins without a try that’s something that very rarely happens to a Saints side.

Listening to it on the radio today, we sound awful.
Must have given atleast 5 penalties away again in the first half, plus other errors.

I got the impression that we're not playing brilliantly but that the defence is a bit stronger than last week. The try sounded soft enough though.
