Interesting that Warrington still thought it acceptable to pick him. He played against us in February after the case had come to light.

    Not really the point.

Wire played a straight bat and suspended him until due process was concluded.
Then they did a U turn because the young Widnes Kid (his replacement) was having a nightmare.

Shows a big lack of judgement and class on their part.

Regarding Gelling himself ,Court Case scheduled , that will clear things up one way or the other.

Suggest people exercise usual caution in posting given legal issues.

None, he did get nailed to post though, as did Folau for his daft comments.

At his best he was one of the best players I've seen pull on a Saints shirt in the last 60+ years.

Unfortunately once he had decided to leave there was some doubt about his commitment to the team.

I don't think there was any doubt toward his lack of commitment. He could have left a hero if he had put some effort into the second half of the season.

I'm surprised those attitudes don't change once they start playing rugby at a higher level and mixing with other player's.

When the Barba case came to light it was mentioned that there had been lots of incidences of domestic violence in rugby league around the same time so it still seems to be common in their communities.

With Folau it would be interesting to see if his attitudes change if he spends a couple of seasons living in a multi cultural society like France
I’m afraid you’re suggestion that this was a 50’s phenomenon here is wide of the mark. Liverpool Magistrates has a dedicated “domestic abuse” court which sits 5 days a week.

Just a lot of drug abuse and even normal people having issues. Wolfie is right it's a big issue and only a proportion goes to Court. The Police can't win in these cases. Yes it has always been around, and don't take this the wrong way, it's gone from a slap in days gone by to uncontrolled battery. Sometimes women on men.

I am just glad that the legal process is working and taking it's course. I, for one, thought this was going to be swept under the carpet. Let the court do it's stuff!

I was referring more to the attitudes of that era

The fact that this domestic abuse court exists proves the point.

It's utterly shameful that despite Gelling being charged with GBH (the details of the charge are that he beat up his then girlfriend, fracturing her eye socket and putting her in hospital), Warrington saw fit to play him tonight.

The standard practice in these situations across every team sport I can think of is for the player to be suspended whilst the case is outstanding.

We know Warrington & their fans have little in the way of morals, so I guess they're just desperate to try to end their 65 year league title drought.

    Couldn’t believe they played him.
He is innocent until proven guilty but with the whole unpleasant issue hanging over him you’d think it would be in the best interest of him, Warrington and Super League if he were “rested” until after the trial.

Dont want to comment on Gelling too much but I do remember this sanctimonious tosh that should not be forgotten now.
