I haven’t seen that myself tbh. I just think we’re missing Morgan Knowles in that regard, Knowles can pass both ways and can link the play, LMS for all his strengths isn’t that type of player when he plays 13.
We’ll be fine we get some players back, a similar team to that couldn’t get a result at London last season.

I don’t think our attacking shape has changed to be honest; we are just playing with square pegs in round holes. You simply can’t execute the same plays to the same standard with Welsby, Bentley and LMS instead of Coote, Roby and Knowles. I think we actually tried to play the same way as normal but the execution and timing was way off and clunky.
Add to that the fact we gave cheap penalties away and some basic errors, it resulted in us looking fairly shambolic.
However there is nothing to be concerned about long term. We desperately need bodies back, particularly Roby I think. I’m not making him the scapegoat but Bentley isn’t a 9 and our plays were far too slow all night. He also needs to curb this tendency to give penalties away.
All in all it was a massively frustrating night but I’m not worried at all. There may be some short term pain with Hull away followed by Sydney, but we haven’t become a bad team overnight and I’d still back us to finish top of the pile come September.
NEVER WRITE OFF THE SAINTS
Does anybody remember Nathan Brown's first game in charge? And what happened at the end of the following season? We may have lost the game last night but it is not the end of the world
Can we just focus a little. Last night means absolutely f*** all.
Learned comment from The Don
We got Nilled chaps that's not good enough no matter how many players was not playing, embarrassing
Main things i picked up on last night was smith should of come on around 30 minute mark as we had 0 speed around the ruck and smith is best at that.
Thing everyone was playing prop all it was was just 1 man run up the middle then a kick just like under cunningham
Lets chill out eh, OP. S*** happens. Other than failing to stop the offloads we won’t learn much from watching the game back. Its one for the bin and start again next week. Hopefully we get some bodies back soon.
The result means nothing in the long term. In 2007 im pretty sure we lost our first 3 games then beat Brisbane Broncos and went onto finish top of the league. Theirs plenty time to pull back last nights 2 points.

There are times in sport where you've got to be realistic and approach games in a way that minimises the impact it has on the rest of your season. With Walmsley out we were never going to win that game in the usual manner. So the gameplan should have been changed very quickly to play conservatively, complete sets and grind the game out, look to score from kicks near their line. Instead we were flapping about trying to overpower Warrington with only one genuine prop in our lineup. It was madness and some of the unforced errors were shocking. That put pressure on us and we had to do too much defending to ever be a force with the ball.
Penalty near Warrington's line in the early minutes. Take the 2, complete the next set and make Warrington bring it out. It's not rocket science. Saints however just tried to play the usual gameplan when it was blatantly obvious we didn't have the personnel on the field to do it.
There were a few worrying individual performances as well. Kev Naiqama on the wing is a firm no for me, just play him centre and put an academy player on the wing. Welsby who looked like a Rolls Royce against Salford looked like a written off Dacia last night, just totally out of his depth, not sure he caught the ball all night. Bentley, never a hooker in a million years, we looked far better when Smith came on.
Disagree. Hindsight is wonderful, let's not forget. We got that penalty at a time when we looked on top and had pushed up the field because of a couple of Warrington penalties and errors. They had defended our sets a decent amount at that point and I think we made the right decision.

Clearly it’s one game and we need to be objective in what went on last night.
The team as a whole did not turn up that happens. The late withdrawal of Al had an impact to some degree that’s a fact. The injury to Percy had an impact as he stayed on well after he was injured, fact.
But I do have a couple of concerns. I think the coaches idea of slowing the PLB is not working. In both games we gave away penalties on that, yet he mentioned it after the Salford game but we were even worse last night. I’m not sure he has worked out our refs are watching for it. Now it could be the players overdoing it but that for me is killing us, especially last night.
I was concerned his interchanges were not that good. I like Bentley but I was surprised he ran with him as hooker and not Smith. For me it took too long to bring Smith on. I’m not sure why Ashworth did hardly any minutes? I know he got muscled a bit but...
Also no idea why he brought Tommo back on near the end when the game was well gone. We lost one prop and don’t see why risking our man guy for a lost cause with a chance of injury etc made any sense. I’m not stressing about last night but we did not have a plan B IMO..
That said the players across the pitch were poor.
I wonder if we are getting distracted by the WCC ( which I think is a needless game but). A good coach steps up when teams are struggling. Maybe this might help us in the long run and we will see how Woolf reacts.
Humans are more concerned with having than being.
with the games coming up I can see 3 defeats on the bounce. We will be mullered in the WCC
I’ve just watched his press conference after the game. If I was one of the players I’d be ready for a tough week ahead. He looked proper ••••ed!
Depends who is/isn't fit. Irrespective of how the club is treating the WCC I'd go to Hull with a simple game plan: respect possession and maintain discipline. Its early season, Saints are down in numbers and there are inexperienced players in the team. Earn the right to play more flamboyant rugby after we do the basics.
We still should finish comfortably top barring a major injury disaster. SOme people just like a fuss.
I have no problems with that, we’ll get those points back. I’d rather lose a couple of games now and ensure that everyone who’s missing comes back fully fit than rush them all back for Hull and the Roosters.
We’ve been lucky with injuries in the last two years but that’s the exception not the norm.
