I’ve heard from someone in the game that Luke is waiting to see if the Challenge Cup gets canned, which might make same sense because he’s won everything else hasn’t he? Maybe he wanted one last crack at it before Australia?

Can't stop the spirits when they need you.
This life is more than just a read through.
I'm thoroughly p*ssed off that I lumped on Saints to win everything this season.
I dont think we should worry too much with our early season form. We put a lot into the WCC, we also lost Percy.
We have probably gained the most from a mid season break.
Given that Thompson may only be contracted up to October/November we risked losing him before the playoffs anyway. Getting a fee sounds sensible.
It all depends on what we do with the fee. No point rushing to get a replacement until we are out of lockdown.
Some clubs may need the cash by that time.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

Reporting in Australia that it’s confirmed.
Shame to end this way and not the normal way but we get a fee we weren’t going to get and he gets the big move.

I am very disappointed he is going early. We get a fee, so what? We are not in any financial strife & a couple of hundred thousand isn't going to help us win another GF this year. Another bollock dropped by the club if true.
Club now reporting it.
He opted out of the wage reduction, which slightly changes how I feel about him.

Saint have officially announced he has left
Humans are more concerned with having than being.
McManus not very pleased with him by the sounds of it.
Gone!!
I ate a tuna sandwich on my first day!
Unfair by the club to call him out. I’m sure he’s not the only one who didn’t agree to a pay reduction. Not sure we’ll ever see him back in a Saints jersey as a result
Had heard that it’s not just that issue. Not sure Tommo was too happy with new coach as well.

If he wants to go, then that's fine. It's a short career, and you can't complain about a player wanting to better himself and test himself. I'm assuming that there is a ready made replacement lined up, given that we will have a bit of money to play with
I was pleased for him to be going early.
Certainly not nice to see a bit of bad blood at the end, sounds like Luke/his agent pushed for the move.
Not sure we needed to say that in all honesty. If this whole pandemic hadn’t have happened, we might have required a bit more explanation but given what’s going on and he might not have played for us for 5 months by the time the season resumes and then could leave within two months of it resuming, does it need much explanation?

Strange statement that. Cutting comments by McManus but to be fair to Thompson, I bet he's not the only player who wouldn't accept a reduction.
13 years at the club, come through the Academy and leaving on bad terms. No quotes from Thompson, no goodbye to the fans or anything. We won't see him back here if he decides to come back.
Maybe Eamon thought that he owed the club till the end of the season - the club that was the platform for his success for 13 years?
Pretty bad given its well documented that his family aren’t short of money and there’ll be players with less who’ve accepted the reduction. Leaves a sour taste leaving early and I can’t understand why the Bulldogs would want to pay a fee to get him early. They’re crap and need all the help they can get but Thompson isn’t going to take them to the playoffs.
A disappointing end to his time at Saints.
As said it leaves a little bit of a bad taste. I don't suppose we'll ever know the full story.
