    Default Round 1 line up

So 1 week to go till first game of 2020 how do you think we will line up against salford bare in mind we got couple of injuries (makinson, roby and maybe knowles). Who will play wing, with it be smith or bentley at hooker. Also any update on knowles

Most of the side picks itself. I'm sure about the wing but think Bentley will start at hooker.

Personally I'd have Naiqama on the wing and one of the young lads at centre but I think he will go with Welsby on the wing.

Welsby did some training on the wing and played there last week so I would imagine he replaces Makinson for a couple of weeks, Bentley has been pushing for a place during pre season and might be first choice replacement for Roby, wouldn't surprise if we have Smith in the first 17 as well to allow Bentley to cover all the back rower positions.

I like Welsby but just think he's wasted on the wing, that said, I'm sure Woolfe know's much better than me so I'm happy to trust him.

I think at this stage of his career the experience of playing anywhere in the side will do him good. He's probably a 1 or a 6 long term, but just getting experience in the side will be good for his development. I remember Lomax playing in the 1st team on the Wing and Centre quite a bit in his younger days and it did him no harm.

I think we'll go with the same starting 13 as in the friendly at the weekend. Bentley and Welsby both seemed to do well (from what I could see).

Think I've probably missed something but what is the latest with Knowles? Is he likely to be out for a while?

Awaiting clearance for full contact from specialist. Will be back round two at the latest if not back for Salford.

I’d be surprised if he went away from that too. Naiqama needs to be in the centre for me otherwise you weaken the whole right side with respect to the relevant players

Agreed. I think Welsby is as good an option as any to cover on the wing, as has been mentioned previously Lomax played 1-7, 9 and even 13 at one point and it didn’t do him any harm. Naiqama ran some great lines in the 2nd half of last season, it’d be a shame to lose that attacking threat.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Didn't Wello make his first few appearences on the wing ? It's all about getting the lad game time.

Yeah, that's a fair point. It won't do his all round game any harm and if he can get over the line once or twice it will be good for his confidence.

Yeah, wouldn’t waste Naiqama on the wing he was class last year in the centres, we’d lose too much in attack and defence.

Didn’t James Roby make his first team debut on the wing ?

He first came through as a scrum half as we had higham as backup hooker with scott moore in same age group, but he had to fight between matty smith and a young kyle eastmond for SH but ended up taking over moore and higham as back up to keiron

Thank God it's that time of the year again. Watching the Prima Donnas playing the Girl's Game and those beefed up musclebound helmeted NFL millionaires playing their ten minutes each (unless you're a kicker, when it's about three minutes) on the pitch was driving me slowly mad! I'm just thankful that a genuine tough, uncompromising and entertaining sport is back. COYS!

Bar the 2010 grand final, when him & Meli got torn to shreds by Gleeson

Not sure with Welsby to wing.

Game time for a promising player is fine.
    Don't like makeshift wingers.

I would have gone with Welsby to centre
and Kevin N on the wing. If Simm is not quite ready.

Centre would give him more experience relevant experience
    to so/fb.

Kevin N has played wing and more closely resembles Tommy Mak in terms of
    coming out of yardage.

Squad wise when money becomes a available then a proper pacey junior winger
should be a priority. (The next Regan Grace)

I think Wire have done good business getting Matty Ashton. He would have been ideal
thinking about the next few seasons.

What about Costello featuring in the three quarters while Tommy Mak is injured? Never really lets us down without as yet being spectacular.

Championship player of the season a couple of years ago.
    Just not kicked on.
Solid but no real attacking threat.

Can see him in the championship when his deal is up.

Costello is solid but lacks pace for me so no point having someone on the wing who cant back up his center is he makes a break
