Play the ball with the foot or get penalised, it's that simple.

There are certain players who will struggle more than others at first but they'll learn quickly IF the referees apply the rule correctly. Don't blame the referees if they blow up for it, blame the players for doing it.
The worst player I have seen for incorrect play the balls is Sam Tomkins. Used to take a 1 metre stride over the ball.

Oh come on don’t you remember contested scrums, without the wing forwards stabilising it it turns into jelly like maul, with constant penalties.

Totally agree, same every season. Both feet behind the line for offside was all the rage one season, disappeared after about 10 games. We've had the play the ball one already several seasons ago.

I agree with this. (Is it still too soon to mention Murrayfield?!!)

It just needs a consistent applicaton all through the season from all officials.

Is this just for SL or internationally too?

Are we going to head down a route where we've tightened up on certain aspects of the game to then play differently when it comes to internationals?

Balls played correctly will probably get penalised & ones that aren't will be missed

Scrutinised more on the televised games no doubt. I'm waiting for the first video ref referral to take it back to the play of the ball, then all the camera angles and zooming in and out whilst they decide if the player's foot touched the ball or not.

    Can just see it now.

Phil Clarke frothing from the mouth due to an incorrect play of the ball not being noticed 2 tackles back when a Try is scored.

Then harping on about it for the rest of the game like a broken record.

Oh no I was looking forward to the new season, but this is spot on especially if Saints do it against Wigan.

Just watching the Rob Burrow game and not seen one PTB with the foot yet! None of em being penalised so what happened to the enforcement of playing it properly?

Good to see such a big crowd though. It should raise a decent amount.

Noticed that too! Not SL though so maybe not in force until season kicks off.

You would have thought that a preseason friendly would have the same rules as those that are going to be used for this season.

Slighty OT but It is an outstanding occasion. Great to see the Leeds and Bradford fans turn out and hopefully they will raise a ton of money for Rob Burrow. Good game too.

Credit also to Sky for showing the game. Its a shame though that there seems to be no obvious changes to the tired production. If they get rid of the crap techno music that'd be a 50% improvement.
