Interesting thread... sure to divide opinion, but a bit of fun and lighthearted banter

I'll probably think of more soon - and trying not to repeat others above, what about:

Jamie Foster or Adam Swift on the wing (Meli a good shout above)
Vinny Anderson or Joseph Paulo at 2nd row (Dom fair for pre-Holbrook)

Tony Puletua is probably another one for consideration. He had a lot of good times with us and overall a decent player for us. But he used to get some real stick from those around me. One old guy in particular who never made a noise other than when Puletua was hiding in the line. "He's so lazy he wouldn't shut your gate on the way out".

    Good shout.

Another one that springs to mind is Darren Britt. An awesome player who some fans never seemed to take to.

I thought Britt was an excellent player and highly thought of by most fans. We went through a period of having really good overseas props who only stayed for a short spell. Britt, Fairleigh and Cayless were all excellent but didn’t stay long enough.

Really good players those 3 but I seem to remember them picking up serious injuries when we needed them most Britt broken eye socket, Fairleigh damaged shoulder, Cayless think it was broken ribs. But in my opinion wouldn't have them in the "Marmite" category compared to Josh Perry for example who couldn't bring his NRL experience into Superleague.

Darren Britt eh, I didn't think that much of him until he left. Absolute workhorse.

The biggest marmite player I can recall is Harry Pinner, he was a genius of a player and a brilliant tactician, but always got stick from the crowd.

I certainly don't remember him being good and any stick he got for that was deserved.

I don't think Paul Davidson split opinion. We sussed him out and we ALL thought he was shite !! Played Billy Big Bollocks but was a shithouse.

Surely not he was very good. I would take a front row with him and Farleigh anyday!

Micheal Smith? Did he not come from Castleford. Think he arrived and left more or less pre season didn't he?

Lasted about as long as the Australian scrum half who wasn't a great driver!

Actually, I think you are referring to Darren Smith ( with headguard?). Think he was a decent pro wasn't he?

Played in a Challenge Cup game when they were pre season and left shortly after, Was signed from Castleford. Had some good games for Cas and I was excited at signing him at the time. Something must have happened for him to leave so suddenly.

Wasn't he still commuting from Hull, kept turning up late and put a load of weight on iirc

Michael Smith, signed from Cas, arrived overweight, played in a friendly at Widnes and was awful. Same season we signed Anderson and Lyon iirc.

Was someone thinking of Darrell Trinall, that arrived then never really played and left again. Signed with Phil Adamson, i think.

Darren Smith was one of the few highlights in a poor 2003 season, didn't he end up with an international recall, due to injuries when Aus were touring?

I referred to Tricky Trindall above as the Aussie half who couldn't drive!
I remember him playing at Swinton (@Bury). Disappeared not long after.

All I remember of him, was he was throwing shoulders at every player bigger than him. Not sure if it was brave or stupid. One of those halves that appear to want to be known for tackling not attacking, Travis Burns was the same.

He was a genius with ball in hand, one of the best footballing forwards. Think what fans didn't like was that we had a loose forward who, let's face it, struggled in defence.
