    Default 'Marmite' Saints XIII

Have we time to squeeze in one last contrived Saints team to keep us busy until the season opener?

I was thinking about players who have really split opinion amongst fans for whatever reason, with half liking and the other half disliking or even hating the player. I wondered if I could get to 13, but ran out of ideas quickly, so thought I'd ask all you good people for your suggestions. Only additional criteria is that they've played for us in the SL era.

    So far I've got:

    Jon Wilkin
    Danny Richardson
    Chris Smith
    Lance Hohaia

But I'm sure there's plenty more. Over to you chaps.

Karle Hammond was probably a good one for this time. Guy was an absolute genius, but if we ever lost around that time, he got the blame for it.

If he played today, he'd be the best player in Super League by a distance, yet was hounded by some fans.

Shane Cooper, one of my all-time favourites but not everyone’s ideal.

Wasn't Davidson just generally thought of as being sh*t?

Spot on. Played a huge but often forgotten role in our early Superleague success

And Jack Owens - no marmite feelings there.

Few harsh ones in there. Atcheson was a perfectly good player, just not as good as those before or after him, but a good player. Tea Ropati was very good for us, I don't remember him getting much negative press. Dom probably doesn't deserve to be in there either. He was shaky under Cunningham, but the world's best player since then and everyone knows it.

    Bryan Henare (awful)

Smith (from Hull) Forward 22st apparently when he turned up.

Spot on. Karle Hammond was quality.

    As was Ropati.

Patch was a perfectly good, solid fullback

Mickey Higham. Fantastic runs from dummy half off a quick play the ball but his passing accuracy and pass selection was not the greatest.

Yeah he wouldn't run on the Dunes at Ainsdale and that was pretty much the end of him. Disgrace he was

Disagree regarding Atcheson but agree re Peyroux that'a why I said pre Holbrook. Ropati, as you sa, is a strange one. I seem to remember him getting a few negative comments from the crowd around me at KR at the time.

Surprised no one has mentioned Gary Wheeler. Absolute class on his day but very injury prone and many questioned his commitment.

He did have a film made about his life, though (I was surprised to learn he was also a racing car driver!)

And THAT'S why he's a marmite player. One that splits opinion.

Some good shouts; some that don't really fit the description.
