Not good news, great news. Though what is new role means for the way the game is officiated is anyone's guess.

But the bad news is - he is being replaced by Robert Hicks.

How many times did he concede that a ref was wrong? Twice maybe? Pointless role

He was like the Iraqi Minister of Information when the Americans invaded when it came to his defence of the referees

Hope the whole role in the commentating team goes, not just him
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom." Danny Blanchflower.
Might have been written by a footballer about football - but never a truer word............

Just about everyone was glad to see Eddie Hemmings go before he went, I for one would have him back tomorrow in place of what we have now. If we are to have a referee in the team, lets have one who explains what the decision should be, right or wrong, for any new viewers who might not understand the game.

Hemmings from 10-20 years ago, fair enough, but the past several years not only did his quality of commentating drop, but he developed a particular agenda that was utterly grating.

I’d certainly have him back ahead of Bill Arthur or any of the others.

As would I, Arthur spent the entire Grand Final called Zeb Ukuma Taia, to the point he was called out on air by i think it was Terry O’Connor, he has a rep for calling players by the wrong name, a favourite being mixing Kev and Regan up.

He was very good at the start as was Stevo. Stevo became the same old cliches every week. and Hemmings became full of self importance. Even at the end of backchat, I thought Stevo was very good on general rugby discussions, rather than trying to comment on a live game.

I'd have him back tomorrow. He had his faults but is miles better than Arthur who is utter crap.

In relation to Cummings they don't need a former ref in the booth explaining every decision, its not the NFL. There is possibly an argument to have a section after the game with a former ref to tie up some loose ends but generally its not needed.
