    Default Gary Wheeler

Toronto have given him a new contract and its two years. One thing we do know now is they have either money to burn or if it all goes wrong next season they can wrap it up. I must be honest I am struggling to see the logic in this and the McDermott 5 year deal. I am now thinking they are a knocking bet to finish bottom.

Fair play to the lad. I suppose Lomax has shown it's possible to overcome chronic injuries.

They need squad players too. He is never going to be a starter but if fit and that's a big if can play either in the centre or wing.

I wish him all the best, but 24 games in 3 seasons makes it a bit of an odd one.

Can only imagine he's on the Super League equivalent of minimum wage and he's just doing it for the free travel.

    You're probably right.
Also, he was one of the original signings so he might well be on his way to another role within the club.

Lomax has shown real guts and toughness in getting past his injury problems.

A part of his game that is often overshadowed by his attacking prowess. His technique is brilliant but very difficult to perfect. back parallel with the turf legs almost straight giving a body angle of 90 degrees, he folds players over his back and then uses this to drive them into the ground all in one movement. Oliver Holmes has an identical style, nobody in the league runs straight at these boys because of their tackling. Tommy Leuluia is similar but Tommy bends his knees more.

A huge amount of talent - pace and a good rugby brain - let down by a body that couldn't seem to stand up to the rigours of the sport at the top level.

I'd still have a fit Gary Wheeler at Saints. Talented lad.

That's absolutely spot on. Skill wise he was probably ahead of Eastmond and Lomax at a similar age, at least very similar, his try at Wakefield I remember for one being absolutely brilliant.. I also remember him tearing Wigan apart at DW before getting done..

Sadly he could never stay fit, literally never, which I think meant he all too often put a bit of weight on.. skill, pace and a rugby brain, but his body couldn't take it
