He was the first player I can remember who stroked the ball for a conversion. Only a slight lad compared to a lot of the recognised kickers of the time. Never seemed to be trying to kick the leather of the ball. Playing outside Meninga in that season, everyone said Meninga made all his tries. He was, however, a class finisher, a few of his tries still needed scoring. Nice lad as well, spoke to him at Culcheth Eagles, who he used to go watching after he finished playing. RIP

Entertaining stuff wasn't it. Day kicked all those goals that season without a pile of sand or a kicking tee.

RIP Sean. Contributed well to a great season to watch the Saints. That clip almost brought me to tears. Pinner could have been the best LF ever. If he only he could tackle, outstanding with ball in hand though.

That it was. Shed full of Sintelliners in the team as well.

    RIP.
His career was short and nobody could claim he was anything more than an average player.
    He was an excellent goalkicker.
However, he played a full part in what was a totally memorable season alongside Big Mal. That team delivered a couple of trophies ending a barren spell.
Sad for anyone to leave so young.

Gutted for the lad and his family, he will always be remembered as one of those players who brought home the Lancashire cup
against the Goons on that great day at CP. One of my best days ever watching Saints.

    RIP Sean.

It's rugby that we are never likely to see again. Harry Pinner chipping over the top on the second tackle 20 yards from his own line. Offloading at every opportunity. Scrums against the head and penalties for feeding! I can't recall any commentator ever discussing completing sets.
OK, players might now be physically fitter and defensive lines are not like a dog's back leg but it was fantastic to watch.

Also, how good was Neil Holding at scooting with the ball? He's still probably the quickest player we've ever had over 20 to 40 yards. He'd be brilliant in the modern game with quick play the balls.
