OK in the spirit of engagement I would say three clubs at the present time dont need the money. Saints and Wire due to wealthy backers and in Saints case ground ownership and I think Wire are majority stakeholders and Leeds due to being a wealthy club despite the Hethringtons.

I feel either of the players you mention it will be lifestyle not money. If you earn 300K a year for 4 years in the north of England you will never need to get up early again for work when your time in the game is over.

The strong rumour in my drinking hostelry, is that Tommo is going to Canberra Raiders!

And that is exactly what they are rumours. If you wanted to go to Aus for the lifestyle experience you wouldn't be going to Canberra.

I can't think of anywhere worse to go.

Hopefully it's true because he will be back within the week

He'll think so when (if) he goes to Port Morseby.

Its pretty much in the middle of nowhere, if you are going either sign for a Sydney based team or Melbourne Storm, they are a lot nicer places than Canberra, bot are on the coast and have great weather, if they are not too hot.

Regarding keeping him at Saints, is he captain material? ...And would that sort of thing keep him here?

If he has staying I would have expected a new deal to already be signed by now.

Therefore it is how Saints handle it that's important.

Set a deadline date for discussions.
    Make him a good offer.
But don't commit too much of the cap.

If his heart is set on the NRL then support him in the transition.
Start the planning for replacements now.
No duff (Josh Perry) panic NRL sigings to replace him.

I think he's undecided - and seeing how Woolf works out from both an on-field and personal perspective will certainly be a big part of that. Don't forget that after bursting onto the scene in 2014 (his impact as sub in the GF was superb), he went backwards under Cunningham, who seemed to really not fancy him. Under Holbrook he's flourished and had great relationship, so I expect he wants to see a similarly strong affinity with Woolf.

I've never really fancied Australia to be honest. Unless it was to the Gold Coast or to see an origin game

It's nothing special IMO although I've only been to Brisbane. I'd go back but it's not exactly somewhere I'd be bothered if I didn't. I'd quite like to go to New Zealand though.

To be honest to a RL buff like you Ralph you would love it. We went as a family and Sydney for me was unreal its wall to wall RL then Nth Queensland was fab around Port Douglas although Cairns is an acquired taste. To be honest Manly would be a good choice of club IMO for a player, but if I could emigrate I wouldn't, although I am 56, perhaps to someone half my age it would be a different attraction. Shall we all club together to send Rubber Duckie one way to Port Moresby they like a bit of duckie families roasted over there.

My first memory of PM is seeing kids cooking animals they'd caught in the bush by the side of the road, my second is seeing some woman passed out on a table next to the sea. I tell you what though, that's one country mad on RL.

PM is really up market compared to Lae and Bouganville.

I can imagine, this was taken on the transport between Tari airfield and our camp.

My pal and some of our new mates.

At least they didn't eat you. If they let you take their photo, they are probably the more civilised ones.

So it is a bit like Warrington then? ...Don't they have a thing about their photos?

that lot were pretty friendly as they got free food, building materials and jobs if they wanted them provided by Exxon, it was just to keep them sweet really as they were a nuisance. I think one of them was called Robbish which amused me. There were another lot of them nearer the airport that wasn't so friendly hence the need for bars on the windows of the buses. A totally different world and I can understand why they'd be upset at their lives being disturbed.
