    Default Team for Wembley

    Fairly straightforward for me

    Coote, Makinson, Naqaima, Percy, Grace
    Lomax, Fages
Walmsley, Roby, Thompson, Taia, Peyroux, Knowles

    Amor, LMS, Lees, Paulo

Think the only position up for discussion is Lees and Ashworth, Amor is playing well, JH likes Paulo.

I’d have Bentley over Paulo on the bench.
Hopefully Lees’ rib injury isn’t too serious. If he’s missing which I really hope he’s not, Ashworth comes in.

I think Ashworth would be unlucky to miss out but I could understand it. He’s been excellent the last month or so

Exactly the team i'd go for. That team has been our go to team this season and has the most experience, which counts for alot in finals.

Coote's calmness at the back will be crucial I think.

I'm glad it's not me picking the team!

The only concern I'd have is picking both Coote and Paulo as their first game back from injury.
Coote is obviously going to play so JP misses out in my opinion.

Don't think the likes of Smith or Bentley will be considered but Ashworth will be the tricky decision unless Lees is out injured after tonight.

Agree that will likely be the team. I might swap Bentley in for Paolo but I think Amor has been outstanding the past few weeks. Percy also showed he can kick goals if Coote doesn’t make it.

This but swap Ashworth for Lees if Matty has picked up a rib injury (I hope the 9 days will be enough to shake of a niggle). I think it’s a shame that Ashworth will miss out but somebody has to unfortunately.

It’s harsh on the likes of Bentley and Ashworth but, as you say, Holbrook will go with Paulo and Amor has probably nudged ahead of Ashworth on form in the last few weeks.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

    Real test for holbrook.

Most of the team is straight forward.

however a lot of players to come in all at once who have missed gamesand had no run out.

Ashworth , Bentley and Amor 2.0 will give him some headaches.
Also a special mention for Welsby. His passing game is something to behold.

On form and being in possession of their respective shirts all of the above
    deserve a place.

I have a suspicion that Paulo may miss out plus one of the big names
might not be as ready to return as billed. (Knowles). this would ease the
    headache

It is a problem but a very nice problem to have fitting 20+ into 17.
At least we are not drafting Matty Smith back.

    Yeah hopefully he’ll be OK.

In terms of other selections, I haven’t seen anything from Bentley yet to suggest he should be in ahead of Paulo if I’m honest. I think it would leave us short of an attacking option and I don’t think we really gain anything. We’ve got Knowles if we need emergency 9 cover, we’ve got back rowers if we need centre cover. If anything we’d lose our half-back cover. Paulo gets a lot of stick for not carrying the ball how people would like and I don’t necessarily disagree with that, I think he could play a lot straighter at times but Wembley is a big, big pitch and we’ve got genuine pace out wide. If we hold onto the ball for long enough and complete enough sets in the first 20/25, we’ll get opportunities to attack out there as the game goes on and the fact that Paulo has a passing game means we can get the ball out there more effectively than we could with Bentley there IMO. We’ve got plenty of direct ball carrying options in Thompson, LMS, Walmsley, Amor, Lees and even Knowles at different stages of the game, I think we can afford to have Paulo on there as another option and I don’t think Bentley really offers anything unique at this stage.

Ashworth is genuinely unlucky but Holbrook prefers Lees.

I think the thread started isn't far off , but you just have to say "what a squad" we have , really in all my years (SNR) talking now , we may have seen better teams but even tonight the youngsters that we selected and brought on = jeez what a future when these kids get that little bit older and experienced .
roy litherland it's happened i told you it would

What a decision to make. Blimey.

Lets assume that Holbrook isn't playing games and the likes of Coote, Walmsley, Robes and Knowles are all fit.

IMO a lot of players pick themselves:

    1 - Coote
    2 - Makinson
    3 - Naiqama
    4 - Percival
    5 - Grace
    6 - Lomax
    7 - Fages
    8 - Walmsley
    9 - Roby
    10 - Thompson
    11 - Taia
    12 - Peyroux
    13 - Knowles

    14 - LMS

I reckon the above are auto-picks if they're all fit.

    That leaves 3 spaces for:

    Amor
    Lees
    Ashworth
    Paulo
    Bentley
    Smith

The above have all had superb seasons, they all deserve a place at Wembley IMO. The two most junior are likely to miss out, again assuming the rest are fit. I think the two who have done the most to deserve a spot are Amor and Lees.

That leave 1 space between Ashworth and Paulo. Eeek.

If we are wondering what the 17 might look like, it'll be even harder for Warrington to try to match a game plan against us, given the rotation and "injuries" over the last 4 weeks or so.

I think that 14-15 names pick themselves, it's the last couple of spots that are wide open.

According to Holbrook they all could’ve played this week had the final been on Saturday but he’s given them the extra week to make sure.

I wonder is Paulo a risk?

He pulled up at Warrington over very little. Do we want to risk agrevating any niggle he has?

The bench for me would be amor, lees, ashworth and lms

Starting 13 pick themselves plus LMS and Lees.

It just depends who is your last 2. I would go Ashworth and Bentley but Holbrook is probably go for Amor and Paulo
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

Pretty much how I see it. But for me Lees is also a cert.

It’s a tough one but I’d go with Paulo and Amor and leave out Bentley and Ashworth. No combination from those 4 would completely shock me though to be honest.
