    Default Pub advice

So myself and the wife are travelling up from cardiff this friday, every time we've been up we have found ourselves in the Running horses, is this where most fans go before and after the game? Looking for somewhere to go late afternoon for food then drinks before and after the game, any advice on wheres best to go? Thanks in advance

Depends what you want food wise, St Helens is hardly blessed but there's the Eccleston arms fairly close to town, a bit poncey but the food is good. From there the Cricketers is a 10-15 min walk which is a good spot with a huge range of beers. Punch Tarmey's is close by to there and taking you the right way, not everyone's cup of tea but I like it and the prices keep the local scrotes out. From there I would only go in the Running Horses or the Glasshouse anyway. The Nelson was alright for a while but I've not been in for a couple of years.

Food in the afternoon - you could do worse than Sabroso Tex -Mex (Mexican food) 23-27, George St, Saint Helens WA10 1DA
You can then look at the George hotel (on the same street) - it was a Saints centric pub but not been in before the game for a while
Otherwise your best option would be the Glasshouse (less than a 5 min walk). The Glasshouse is a Wetherspoons and will get full of mainly Saints fans

Don’t try Tibetan then, unless you like cabbage, dumplings and yak’s cheese.

Food wise Cork and Dough are a pizza place which does proper Italian style (I.e not Pizza Hut/dominos stodgy) Pizzas.

That's a good shout. The Brassiere round the corner used to be alright for a pint.

Quite possibly as there's decent pubs at both ends of Mill Ln. The Wheatsheaf does good food.

If you're looking for decent service, I wouldn't go near either of the Wetherspoons. Always rammed on Derby Day with no thought to put additional staff on. When they then prioritise people using the app for table service over those at the bar it's chaos.
Nelson does superb fish n chips
    Cricketer's is an excellent beerhouse.

I bought a pack of luminous condoms last week. The wife's face lit up.
