    Default Wigan after Richardson?

Suggestions in the trade press that Wigan are looking at Danny Richardson.

Don't see this as a shock move as suggested in the article, always on the cards when Fages signed again.

It's probably in Danny's interest to go elsewhere, he needs to play and the opportunities at saints appear slight at the moment

    Good luck to him

He’s better off dropping down a level like this to work on his game and then maybe one day he’ll be fighting for a place in a top side again. Would be a good move for him.

Strange if true. Richardson doesn’t strike me as a Wigan type of player.

I can understand if he wants to move on but I would prefer him to stay.
We need to cover and I still think he could be a top class player.

His defence is a weakness but tackling technique can be learnt, Fages and Leulai are both short in stature but they have developed a tackling style that suits them.

In attack he sometimes need to take the ball one step closer to the line before off loading. Again that's something that can be learnt with practice and experience.

At the moment Fages is the better half back but maybe after a good close season Richardson could be the better of the two next season

If he was going to Australia to improve his game I'd say good luck to him but fear if he went to Wigan he could come back to bite us.

I’m surprised Leeds haven’t signed him as they’ve made it clear they’re after a half back

I think the need a good experienced half back who can steer them round the pitch and take charge. I don't think Richardson is ready for that role

Not for us maybe but Leeds seem desperate to get it sorted

Not in favour of this at all, unless a replacement is signed. What happens if we sell Danny to Wigan and one of the halves gets a bad knock?

Squad depth has been one of the main reasons we've been strong over the last couple of seasons. Leaving ourselves with no backup in the halves doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea. Richardson fulfiling his undoubted potential at the Goons and becoming a reverse Sean Long is also a worry.

Why not dual-reg him to Leeds next season instead and see where he is at the end of that season?

All joking aside I’d be taking this with a massive pinch of salt for the time being. The article is quite vague and simply says Wigan are “said to be lining up a move.” There’s no quotes from anyone in the article and nothing of any substance really. It’s nothing more than a rumour at this stage.

how long is his current contract?

I'm sure we signed him up for a good number of years last year.

All this talk about his development, but he's been around the first team for a few seasons, so has been developing whilst in the team. I'd say some of the issues are that he hasn't developed as many would have expected, his defence and organising the team. But with all that said, he's only an injury to Lomax/Fages away from being back in the team, even if Coote was out, Lomax back to 1, with Richardson and Fages in the halves wouldn't be the worst thing. I'm all for bringing through the likes of Welsby, but sometimes a more experienced player out of position is the better call.

We play Lewis Dodd from the 19's who is going to be a better player, he's beaten the Young Aussie tourists who came over and was MOM in Lancashire V Yorkshire last week when Lancashire won.

Good up coming player is Lewis

I think Danny rich would do well at Wigan, good luck to him, I don't think we need him long term

According to Gareth Walker in the weekend press Leeds have made a cash on the table offer for Salford's Robert Lui.

Agreed but is he not more of a runner? Rather than an organiser who can lead them round the field? Thought Hastings did that for them.

I said early this season we could be creating another "Lee Briers" scenario.

Contracted till the end of 2020 with an option of another year.

Phil Wilkinson, Wigan journalist, has denied Wigan are interested today so we can put this one to bed I think.

I’ve often heard people say that but would they rather have retained Briers and not had Long? Also, I find it hard to recall many, if any, instances where Briers burned Saints.

Wonder if they would throw in Myler as part of the offer? Cant recall many more overated players than Myler tbh.

We certainly lost out with the first two and probably could have done more to retain them, especially as they were established first team players at Saints. Can’t see the relevance of Greenwood’s inclusion though as we didn’t release him to Wigan (and I think we have better players in his position). In any event, given Richardson’s position as an understudy at Saints, I don’t think comparison with any of the names listed is appropriate.
