    Default Taia extension

Taia signed a 1 year extension. Just hope it's not a season too far. He seemed to tire toward the back end last year, but was fantastic last week.

Good stuff. Never understood the lack of appreciation for him ... he brings a lot to the side.

I’m happy with this. He’s better than the younger alternatives currently on Saints’ books and it looks like the benefits of player rotation have been taken on board. There’s no reason, therefore, to think that he can’t see out the rest of this season and continue into the next with little or no drop-off in performance while at the same time allowing us to drip feed Bentley and Batchelor with first team experience.

Great news! Been in great form and hopefully with Bentley and Batchelor we can protect him a bit more and he doesn’t get burnt out

Exactly. Gets some stick for his handling errors but that's always going to happen when you touch the ball as much as he does. Very important member of the squad.

A one year extension is a no brainer really. Still produces the goods most weeks

A good deal for all parties. He’s getting on a bit but still a top back rower and gives the youngsters coming through another year to develop. Happy days. It shows that the club is thinking long term which is good. An indication that Holbrook will extend his stay maybe? Just thinking out loud.

He does. He’s one of those players that you only seem to notice his contribution once he’s gone. Scarsbrook probably falls into that category too.

He was dreadful at the end of last season and seemed really burnt out. I am however happy enough with the deal as he deserves one on form. Maybe have taken a bit of a cut as well? I find it unlikely we would have offered him improved terms.

    Just waiting on Holbrook

An extra year is just about right, the current rotation of Tai, Paulo and Peyroux is a nice balance and I should imagine playing less minutes will extend his longevity.

Last week against Cas just showed he is a very skilful player when on song.

Agreed he looked done for in the second half of last year.
Hopefully we’ll give him a rest or two before the play offs.

He’s been awesome this year though contract fully deserved. Can’t think of many other, if any better second rowers in sure league at this moment - Jack Hughes, Peyroux arguably.

Just on your last point re Holbrook, don’t forget Thompson and Fages!
