    Default Fages To Cas ?

Seems to be a rumour doing the rounds at the moment. All over the Cas forum & reported by Dave 'Nosey' Parker too in the rugby press. Seems to be a strange decision if true.

Suspect nothing more than Fages agent trying to drive up his value after the NRL rumours have gone quiet

They swore blind they had signed Walmsley the other year. I can see Theo wanting to be paid a lot more,he was only a teenager when we signed him. He has to weigh up being part of a very good team Vs money. I can't see Cas offering him very much more than we would do. As magic superbeetle says it sounds very much like agent talk.

He's a very good player and would improve cas in a salary capped sport maybe they have more space than us? And can pay more

I would imagine thats the case, if he is not going to the NRL then why go to a super league club with less chance of success.

I know a lass who lives in Aus & is very well connected to people in the know at Penrith Panthers.

She is adamant that no one in the NRL is interested & it's just rumours.

I'd say the Cas rumours are more credible than the NRL ones

If Dave 'Nosey' Parker says he is going to Cas, I would put my money on him going to Whitehaven
    St Helens Openwater Swimming Society

I would imagine in a salary capped sport that many other Superleague clubs could offer Fages more money than us when you look at the quality of our playing roster (with the majority of them tied down). With recent reports of NRL clubs interested in Hastings again, I can see Wigan making an offer to Fages.

Are non-Wigan players even allowed to sign with a NRL team nowadays?

If he goes it will be a loss that's for sure. He started as a s/h and with playing there on a regular basis he is improving week on week and is playing with more confidence and creativity.

Big losses they’d be for Cas , I could see that signalling the end for Powell if they lost them 2.

I find it hard to believe that Cas would stand by Gale through these injuries, paying his contract and his rehab and then let him go to a close rival.

Makes zero sense to me, the equivalent of us letting Jonny go to Warrington......

Saints would miss Fages if he went elsewhere , a young experienced player just coming into his pomp .

Hope Fages stays, especially with the way he’s played this year and he’ll only get better.

If he does decide to leave do we pick Richardson ahead of him? For me we have to.

Richardson not good enough for me , if Fages leaves I would play Lomax scrum half and Welsby stand off

How do you know Welsby is good enough based on the hand full of games he’s played at the top level, mainly out of position?

Richardson has shown this season that defensively he's improved a lot. Needs to sharpen up on his last play options still, but imo would be the obvious replacement - in the current squad - should Fages go
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom." Danny Blanchflower.

I’d be a bit nervous about him being established as our long term option now. I’m not sure he’s ready.

He got us pretty close last year with a years less coaching and development.

It all comes down to cap value too, if the only other option is Hastings on megabucks, Richardson seems the better bet
