Default Derek Traynor's class of '16

I remember watching the academy final in 2016 and thinking that team that didn't drop a point the whole season was a special group.
Today saw Smith, Lees, Richardson, Grace, and Costello take the field together for the first team. Knowles was missing today but also a graduate of that team.
Our academy again leading the way in player development from the u19's to the first 13.
Hats off to the whole academy staff!!

He's doing very well, I think he has got a fairly young academy side this year but they are still up there. We've usually struggled with player development in the past and only see 1 or 2 players coming through but we seem to have hit the right structure and its an easier transition into the first team, congrats to all the club coaches in getting that level of skills and performance.

I remember being at Knowsley Road and it seemed whenever we had an injuries, the kids stepped up and fitted in seamlessly. Today felt like one of those days. What a squad we have this season.

Don't forget his role in helping the team transition from the anti-rugby that Cunningham had had the players plugging through with for two years. By the time Holbrook came in, the shackles had already been shaken off. If Holbrook had come in straight after the Cunningham era, I doubt he'd have been able to effect anything like the transformation into the best team in the comp so quickly.

I remember looking at the squad before the season and thinking it’s the most depth I can remember us ever having. We’ve as good as got a back up for every single shirt who can come in and not look out of place

Smith and Welsby could be special players for us in the Wellens and Roby class if they keep themselves grounded.
    Learned comment from The Don

I just said on another thread that Welby's stats vs Tomkins are excellent.

EDIT: I forgot Tomkins played in the halves

I think 10 of Saints 17 yesterday had come through our academy.

That's a superb ratio, very well done Traynor and all others concerned.

No bigger compliment to the Academy lads and Derek et al than the comments made by the Catalans Chairman.

It’s on Redvee Twitter. Basically said he was in awe of our young lads and their technique, skill and thirst for play. Also that they had brought back this as a lesson for the young ones at Catalans.
