I don’t think Richardson has done anything to warrant staying in the team, so assuming Fages is fit I’d imagine Richardson and Smith will miss out.

    Coote
    Makinson
    Naiqama
    Percival
    Grace
    Lomax
    Fages
    Walmsley
    Roby
    Thompson
    Peyroux
    Taia
    Knowles

    Paulo
    LMS
    Lees
    Amor

Richardson for Fages if he’s not fit. The rest picks itself really.

Wigan have O’Loughlin, Flower, Greenwood and Hardaker back. Still missing Farrell, Manfredi, Clubb, Marshall, Sammut and Powell.

Very Strong side. Looking forward to this.

Don't really understand the last prop selection of late.

Amor seemingly on the outs done ok but not pulled up any trees.
Douglas been great at Leigh does not get a look in.
Ashworth not really being given decent minutes and seems the first to be cut.

Douglas built for minutes , Ashworth for impact and offloads.
JH never seems to give the last prop that many minutes anyway , therefore
makes a case for Smith on the bench.

Just don't really understand the thinking behind this.

You see other sides who are cursing their injury woes and then look at us naming 1 to 13 in our 19-man squad.

I'd say its lucky but I think our S&C team are just doing an amazing job.

We've had our troubles with injury in seasons gone but I think there's a genuine desire amongst this group to keep going through whatever gets thrown at them. Add in the depth of the squad and a fear of not getting back in if you drop out of the side. It makes us a very strong proposition.

I think Holbrook wants the forwards; Thompson, Walmsley, Lees to run their blood to water whilst on the pitch. I know that sounds obvious but Amor coming on in the second half allows them to get a breather and preserve Walmsley and/or Thompson for a big last 15/10 minutes, especially in tight matches. Obviously the coaching staff look into it in much greater detail than we do, analysing the matches, using stats etc, I trust in Holbrook’s decision. It’s certainly worked so far.

Knowles tends to come off start of the second half for Paulo and is then reintroduced at hooker to give Roby a rest so that comes into it too.

I get the feeling Saints still see Ashworth in a development stage, he certainly seems to have put a lot of size on since last season. He got some decent minutes against London but made a few errors, I think next year will be his year with Douglas leaving and I presume Amor will leave too. Re Douglas, there’s a Leigh season ticket holder I work with and he can’t believe he’s on loan there, he says he just runs through everyone. Obviously he didn’t do that for us but I did think he performed better than Amor last year and would like to see him get a game for us at some point this year.

Hope Fages is fit and comes in for DR. Had Greenwood in his back pocket in round 1, think Richardson would struggle defending against him.

Don't think he will be match fit so if we hit a warm 22 degrees at kick off can't see him doing big minutes.

O’Loughlin has been a great player for the goons. Regardless of how much his presence lifts them on Friday i still think its a season too far for him.

Any guesses how the piescum will line up?

With both Powell and Sammut missing, the halfback & hooker combination will be interesting/cobbled-together.

I cant see any way that Wigan win this game. We are better in pretty much every position on the pitch and on the back of steamrolling the best (some would argue) team in the league this year. Wigan are a shadow of their former self and without the ape whipping them into a frenzy of aggresion, I think Saints will blow them off the rented park. Sometimes we (fans) and the team seem to somewhat over-think these fixtures and in the past that mindset of 'lets make sure we dont get beat' seems to take priority over "we are better in every department, lets demolish them in the first 20 minutes". There is nothing whatsoever to fear from this Wigan side and we should be going in buoyant (not complacent) and committed to putting a big score on them. History and past matches are irrelevant - ask a Bradford fan. The lads should, and I'm sure will, be ready to drop the hammer on the has-been's.

Yeah, what a shocker. I don't think he's the talismanic influence he once was though. Lets hope I'm right!

If it wasn’t Wigan on Good Friday I would say that that team holds little fear but . . .

The first 13 is mostly half decent but the quality drops off a cliff after that. If that team was called Hull KR or Salford it wouldn’t be an issue

Oh dear is this your first season supporting Saints, have you never heard the phrase stupid things happen in derbies, ask people who were there in 2003. These things can and often do defy logic. Big statements based on what should and possibly will happen if you look at things only logically, have a habit of sometimes coming back to bite you on the arris.
Every rugby league fan in the country including most Wigan fans are expecting a Saints cakewalk based on form and squad, but maybe a bad decision, a bounce of the ball or Wigan just turning up with the attitude of lets ram their predictions back down their throats may just cause the biggest surprise of the season. Remember the fully fit Saints team that travelled to Bolton to book their place at Wembley, Strange things happen matey on a rugby field.
