Said something along the lines of "If I can't get Old Trafford Wigan v Saints is a great game to bow out on". Not word for word but seems odd.

As much as I have criticised his commentaries, I hope that comment is not linked to his prior illness.

It could just be a contractual thing. Don't forget when he started we were still playing a winter season. It's possible that his contract runs out at the end of the old season.

I hope it's something like that anyway

I think it’s more to do with the fact that the long standing producer, Neville Smith, is finishing at that time. I suspect Sky are looking for a clean break when the new producer comes in.

I wish the guy well but as a commentator, I don't rate him. I think he's poor

Watching that makes me realise how difficult it must be to be a good commentator.

Not been mentioned since he has actually hung up the mic but some nice touches in the Wigan game. Hope he enjoys hks retirement.

He was on talksport with H &J on Thursday where he confirmed Bill Arthur will be taking over the lead commentary which is hardly inspiring.

Thought he did a great job in his last commentary, seemed happy and maybe the pressure was off, well done to him

I like bill Arthur, although I,d be happy with some new faces or maybe voices

I’d be disappointed if Bill Arthur is the permanent appointment, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was just a stopgap for the rest of the season.

Makes you wonder why he retired when he did. You’d have thought they would have someone else lined up rather than just leaving it. Why couldn’t he have retired after the GF?

Not sure really, Eddie deffo retiring, maybe their contracts are a follow on from Winter rugby (although that seems unlikely). Neville Smith going at the same time suggests it may be the time their contracts were up?

The programme mentioned about Eddie being captain at Warrington golf club, maybe he just wanted an extra summer of golf, rather than retiring in the winter months.

Or maybe he just wanted to spend more time with his family. Whilst we only see 2hrs of work on the screen I'm sure there was a lot more preparation and work commitment that went on behind the scenes.

Personally I'm glad that Bill Arthur is taking over, otherwise it would be a limited choice of those who are left.

I'd be more in favour of a clear out and going back to a 2 person team. The commentator and the pundit. If they need extra voices at half-time, current coaches and players need to be brought in.

Having so many voices just messes up the flow and stops a dynamic being created between the hosts.

It would be a problem for multi match days like good Friday. But other than that I think it would be a better outcome.

    .
Yes absolutely this....far too many of them on.

I wonder if they fancy giving George Riley a call? A good rugby league guy who was royally stitched up by the BBC.

Numerous allegations of sexual assault and he left the BBC to avoid having to face the investigation. Hardly a case of being stitched up.

Thought he had no case to answer?
