Sad news. An old schoolmate of my dad's, and they'd always have a chat when they met up. Great player, too.

Our legends roster has been hit hard the past couple of years.

He was also a very young member of the side that won the cup for the first time in 1956.

I didn't know him personally but he was a very good 6. We never really replaced him for a couple of years until we got Frank Myler from Widnes, who was world class.

RIP Austin, condolences to his family. His daughter took citizenship in Australia wearing her Dad`s old touring playing shirt.
I worked (if that`s the correct term) with him at Cowley Hill in the fitters shop, good times for a young apprentice back then always some fun been had with Austin one of the ring leaders.

Such sad news, RIP Austin, condolences to his Family, his Son played for us at St Helens YMCA Under 16's RL scrum half, we had a good side then players from West Park, Cowley, Central Modern & Parr Central. As others have said more and more have passed since that 1966 Cup Final, what a game

R I P and condolences to his family , I know there are others on here who watched him play as I did and it makes it even more sad , when you watch young lads come into a team and you know they are going to be really good .
