    Default Wakey Away

Looks like we'll be taking a tidy crew to Wakey this Sunday. Ticket office sold out our allocation and awaiting delivery of a second batch, which will hopefully arrive tomorrow. You'll definitely be able to pay on the gate, but I'd far sooner let Saints have a share of the ticket income.

Be a tough game, Wakey always lift themselves against us

They can play good football, I wouldn't take too much notice of their result against London

If anyone is looking to sup ale (loads or otherwise) in the town, I can recommend Harry's Bar, not far from the station, or Fernandes Brewery Tap and Beer Keller which is sort of on the way to the ground from the town centre.
I hope to be in one or the other at some point!

Always a good game to listen to on the radio, as the commentary box is open and very close to the Wakey crowd. As long as you're winning there, it's great fun listening to the comments and the whinges and the insults (and to Alan Rooney having to apologise to listeners for the bad language)

Whats Wakey like for just turning up on the day? I can’t imagine theirs any chance of it selling out. Can you pay on the gate if you’re willing to stand with the Wakefield fans?

unless it's changed recently, the home team has 100% of the gate receipts for league games but it's 50 50 after matchday costs are deducted for cup matches no matter where they are played and no matter which club sells most tickets

You can pay on the day - whether that's at the gate or the ticket office I don't know - but there are no restrictions so you don't have to stand with the home support, just walk round the terraces

Thanks pal. Moving around and socialising eh? Old school haha. Like it. No wonder Wigan have to give away tickets these days. Its much better having the freedom to move around. I wish Langtree had a popular side. At least we can still move around behind the sticks.

It changed a couple of years ago. Saints get a percentage of ticket sales from the ticket office for away games. Not sure if it's 25% or not. So buying away tickets in advance helps the club financially.

Don’t waste your cash, the spec is dreadful.

I'm debating whether to take the kids, they want to go but it's a ground I've never been to and not sure what to expect from their fans.

You should be fine mate, never had any issues there. It's different to everywhere else as the away fans are actually down the side, behind the players dug outs. So, in many ways it's like a home game in terms of the view and being able to get on the ref's back.... David Fifita always has some good banter with the Saints fans when he's spelled.

I'm thinking the same re taking my grandson because it's one of the old grounds where you can get up close and see the action and hear what goes on.

So far he's only been to Saints sat in the stand, too far away to hear the impact

Talking of which , Fifita is one player I would love to see in a Saints shirt .

You can easily be away from the wakey fans there. Just stand in the middle by the dugouts down the side where all the saints fans will be and you won’t really hear anything from the home fans.

Hope the weather is going to be alright otherwise we’ll all get soaked.

Would need to get his hair sorted beforehand though.

Checked on the Wakey site - they operate cashless turnstiles so you have to buy ticket at the ticket office on Doncaster Rd (the main entrance area)

Agreed. They’re a tough team. Have to say though, looking at the tries, some of their goal line defence in the London game was really poor. First three London tries were right hand side, left hand side and through the middle.

Get them took. As for their fans, it's like any team, majority are fine and a few not so. However, talk to them you'll find the vast majority are there for the game, they just support a different team.

If you are going by car there is a new road that brings you to the ground avoiding Wakefield city centre. Come off the M62 at junction 30 onto the A642, at the Shell garage (about 3 miles) go left onto the A6194. Stay on that road until you come to a large double roundabout and join the A638 (Doncaster Road0 heading into Wakefield. The ground is about 3/4 of a mile on your left.

The fans should be fine but the weather on the other hand...!!!
There isn't much shelter to the away fans terrace (along one side) apart from a small roof towards the 'flats' end of the ground.

The first game I ever took my lads to was Wakefield away. They had a great day and it encouraged them to go again, not stay away, so that pretty much says they'll enjoy it.

Tidied this thread up a bit because the original question had some useful responses. The rest of it and the ensuing stirring is gone. Some of you will have had messages deleted that didn't bother me in the slightest, but they've been removed because they were linked to the stuff that I've cleared out. Don't be offended, I've just removed everything except the on topic responses.

Did this a couple of years ago and the ticket office only took cash not cards so might need to be prepared.

The fans are ok but considering how ‘retro’ Bell Vue is, you’ll see more of the match on the radio
