Default Widnes going under? Game cancelled.

    http://www.totalrl.com/widnes-game-w...ld-called-off/

    Cancelled with no re-arrangements agreed.

Serious problems there, let’s hope it’s not as bad as feared.

Nothing on the Widnes website - that still says the game is going ahead.
If they do go under I hope the RFL do like they did with the Welsh team and let their players join other clubs and give those clubs SC dispensation.

Just think of the advantages of Widnes failing the RFL can throw money at a team in Tristan Da Cunha or some other dark side of the World team.
On the Back foot looking for the front one.

Really sad news although not entirely unexpected. A good friend of my sons is employed in the junior coaching and development there, really feel for him and all the staff. If they do go into administration I expect a lot of the players will have to be sold and Widnes may end up in League one.
    Not good at all.

Exactly right! there's no pint in funding expansion if the game is collapsing in the heartlands. This would be an ideal venture for Koukash, a ready made infrastructure, ground, fan base, etc. Just needs an injection of cash and some new ideas.

As long as those ideas don't involve moving somewhere else and calling the team by a different name!

Terrible news for the club if it's going down. I don't think the Widnes fans will be keen to change their name to Liverpool though?

To Koukash, this would be too much like Salford mark 2- maybe a bit stronger in terms of support. rented stadium, smallish crowds etc. You can see why he would want to expand the brand and maybe change the name/focus to include Liverpool as the brand but how many Widnes supporters would but into that?

I wonder how long it will be before the Hemmings guy says well they could have joined in with some other club.

The worry is once it's in Administration, points deducted and the players become free agents, worrying times indeed.

Despite the history there, the club has been dead since they moved to the new ground. It just doesn't have the support of the community anymore.

Do they have any players we should be stepping in to support financially to ensure their families get food on the table?

I wonder how many of their players will end up at Leigh and will that impact on how the dual-reg is used from our perspective.

If there is salary cap dispensation for taking any of their players it's a good move from the sport's perspective, but clubs will still need to find the funds to pay them.

Barring a bad injury to either Percy or Naqaima I wouldn’t have thought so. We’ve already had to ship out two centres on loan - Morgan and Costello. Probably go to Warrington with their limitless spending power and salary cap evasions.

Can't believe that Widnes have had to postpone the Sheffield game...makes our (Leigh's) situation last season, not seem so bad. Really hope they can get out of this mess 'soon' although administration and a 12 points deduction looks likely. When I was a kid went to so may Widnes games in the 7o's and early 80's with my Dad (even though I am a Leigh fan) and Naughton Park was rammed full with spectators, and a constant stream of fantastic players. Lots of local talent (Mick Burke, Keith Elwell, Tony Myler, Ray Dutton etc) plus all the ex Rugby Union stars. Guess it's a bit like Bradfod Northern/Bulls, used to be a massive club, lots of trophies, but now it's a totally different ball game.

Years of bad management at all levels coming home to roost. How many other clubs are struggling?

I’ve wondered that too. I think I’m right in believing that only Saints and Hull increased their gates last year. Everyone else had fewer bums on seats. It’s hard to maintain a spectator sport without enough spectators.

Really? Why would a business man invest in a failed club rather than something new and scaleable.

Tomorrow's getmmore income and fans than Widnes's in just a few years, widnes have been around decades and haven't been achieving much on or off the field for years and years

It's very sad, a historic club struggling but they have only ever been big enough for semi pro, unless they improve their own situation then they should expect to be semi pro

Keep throwing money at failure isn't the way forward

If MK did buy them he should rebrand them Liverpool and get selling them on a larger scale, their youth can play as widnes

Not really a new ground as it's the exact same spot
