Looking at the reports it seems that he will be focusing on the mental health side of players which is a positive. The article in the Guardian mentions that Adams Sporting Chance Charity has helped 400 players including Leon Pryce who credits them with saving his life. Adams statement also seems to be focusing on the MH side of the game which can only be a good thing. I doubt he will have any futher influence.

Not sure what the job entails. I don't remember much of Andy Burnham to do with RL.

    Apparently
It’s honorary - like an ambassadorial role. Unpaid. He will promote player welfare and Sporting Chance who help rugby league players with addiction or depression etc.
Humans are more concerned with having than being.

No disrespect to Tony Adams for doing this, but I see the press got a comment from Brian Barwick on the appointment. A pity he is not unpaid, I suspect Adams may have more impact than he does.

I don't know what the job entails either, but I do get that Andy Burnham had links with RL (particularly Leigh) being from the North West.
No disrespect to Tony Adams, but what are his links to the sport?
I don't really get it...But does it matter?

Read the article. A key bit...
"The charity has helped more than 400 rugby league players, since the RFL entered into an official partnership with Sporting Chance in 2011, and Tony himself delivered seminars at Wigan and Hull earlier this year"

Good appointment for me. Not 100% sure, however I seem to recall Paul "buffer" Forber being Tony Adams best man at his wedding.

Yes, I had read that, but it seem that his charity covers all sports and is not specific to RL.
I'm not sure what the 'official partnership' thing means, or if this is unique to RL either.
I don't have a problem with any of this BTW, just a bit surprised by his appointment.

Craig Bellamy on Adams's appointment. Who would his mate be who went from Saints to Hull KR?

Never realised Bellamy was such a fan. Great piece from him.

Extended interview with Craig Bellamy and Stuart Pierce. They are more positive about the game than many on here, and both pick up on the lack of media coverage.

They need to have a quiet word with Brian Barwick and tell him to get his finger out and do the job he was employed for:

Other than the opening para, I struggled to find any mention of RL. Should have been handcuffed to Nige.

    How good is that!!

Sign Stuart Pearce up as RFL spokes person. Hes done more for rugby league positive publicity in 30 seconds than Ralph has in years!

I dont think that is harsh at all. Imagine being in charge of an organisation as large as the RFL and being as poor as he is at leadership etc.....he would soon be managed out and rid of in a company. I could be a lot more "harsh".

I love this sport, have played it, coached it, watched it, support it and it does hurt to see people in charge seemingly with no idea over a period of time now running the game into the ground. As I have said on another thread, if you always do what you have always done you will get the same results.... new management team with proven track records and a strong leader are required and I just dont see that in the ones we have unfortunately.
