Indeed. The implication of this is 'if you want him we're going to take some persuading (i.e. ££££)'

I hope this doesn't become a distraction for the upcoming season just as the barba situation was last year.

I like the bit where he admits a lot of the other players also want to go to the NRL. Really like that bit, daft statement to make, just didn't need saying publicly. First thing I'd do is fine Makinson. Clearly been negotiating with NRL clubs whilst in contract with us.

I'm not sure I'd read that much into it. There just seems to be an attitude in Aus that you can basically say whatever you want about SL players, regardless of their contract situation.

If the right offer came in ££££££ then Makinson's contract would be sold. Simple as that.

For me its just the NRL flexing there muscle with Smoke and Mirrors. Tommy always comes across as a level headed and modest bloke, it wouldn't surprise me if he really wants to cement a place in the England team first before anything else. He will because of his modesty also realise he wouldn't be anywhere near the top wingers in the NRL and one bad season over there could mean he's packing his bags for a return to the UK.

He's got the Rugby League World Cup in 2021, I'm pretty sure he can see the risk of settling in too slowly into an NRL team could cost him a place in the England squad. On the other hand if he's looking purely at the money side then would he break his proud loyalties to the club.

His teams won't ever win prizes for style or entertainment value, but he can pick a team to grind out results. He was also desperately unlucky with injuries to key players during his time here.
