Default Ireland vs All Blacks (is it on TV)

Ireland will face the mighty All Blacks at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Primetime terrestrial British telly channel.

RL gets midnight on BBC8 but only within 10 miles of the M62

    sheesh

Watched the earlier Scotland v South Africa game , really enjoyed that. Rugby League with all the time wasting and feigning injuries is getting a bit boring these days.

There’s some good play in Union these days and half the set moves are replicas of RL ones, but I just can’t be doing with 20 seconds of action followed by a 3 minute stoppage for a scrum, goal kick or line out. It’s not so much the stoppages, it’s how long it takes to get the game going again. It’s the same reason I can’t take to NFL. It’s something League has to watch though I agree with scrums, dropouts etc taking an eternity currently

Wow! that some statement. The ball in play time in union is so low and don't talk about the scrums.

League has some lengthy stoppages now. Drop outs take forever and the number of drink stoppages is ridiculous

I think the league ball in play time is pretty low these days, when you consider the Union technical game with the league game, stoppages are part of there game. Our scrums are fake and sometimes the ref has to find volunteers to form one.
Rucks, Lineouts and Scrums are competitive in Union, PTB,s, Scrums, Faking Injury in league are rest periods and are taking more and more minutes out of our game.

If Union went to a 13 man game I reckon league would be on its way to being obsolete.

Since Rugby League players got in coaching positions in Rugby Union it has transformed completely and is watchable compared to the dark days of players standing in midfield and watching the two full backs having a game of kick and catch. I find myself able to enjoy current Union games whereas League is going backwards with every challenge being a penalty. Contact is being ripped out of League and like football it gives players the opportunity to milk situations which is destroying the spectacle and the refs in Rugby League seem unable to control the con men.
On the Back foot looking for the front one.

Couldn't agree more. Rugby league becoming one big yawn fest.

Dead right, one improving and one going backwards.
I don't think it is the skill level of the players that is decreasing, it is more to do with the administration: Rule changes, poor refereeing, poor marketing, dated commentary etc.

If you understand the technical rules of the ruck, scrum and line out you can appreciate its complication which is often overlooked by us league fans. I started to watch the game 2 seasons ago when the welsh side started to speed up getting the ball away quickly from the ruck the All Blacks were already doing that and Scotland, South Africa have now joined the fray.

We are now seeing bigger hits in Union these days as opposed to niggly head tackles and wrestle mania in league, luckily courtesy of Holbrook Saints play fairly open rugby with good passing plays with probably Warrington and Castleford in the same format as well. If league carries on with 5 drives and a kick with all this time wasting then the game is just not attactive anymore.

The rugby union "old boys" use to have pockets in there shorts to keep there hands warm not these days, its the league boys who now need the pockets as they wait minutes for video calls, "injuries", goal line drop outs and those slow penalty kicks to touch which only go 20 metres.

I also find the officials in Union far superior to the League Counterparts, union players show respect to the ref whilst league players waste even more time over decisions that are not going to be changed.

The skill level, power and athleticism of the all blacks rugby union team is outrageous.

Have we all forgotten the reasons Rugby League came into being, and the prejudice directed toward our sport for over a century, including by the public school-dominated media?

to clarify the ball in play times of the two codes, on average the ball is in play for 60 of the 80 minutes in league and 40 of the 80 in union. stoppages for injuries etc are not included in this time. nb these figures are from my fading memory but are roughly correct

History is bunk. I’d rather judge as I find things now than have my opinions and actions skewed by irrelevancies from the past.
