    Default Lolesi leaving

I've not noticed it mentioned on here that Lolesi is leaving us at the end of the season.
He's been here since Brown's tenure and is always spoken of on the rare occasions he gets a mention. He was of course one of the triumvirate that took over after KC for a short period, he came across well in his few sky appearances.
Has anyone any information where or why he's going or what he's going to do ?

There was a rumour about Long leaving at one point. Assuming that was BS now.

I hope Longy is staying, that would be terrible news.
    As you say, just BS

No disrespect to Lolesi, but does anyone know what he actually does? I remember KC saying JL's job was to manage the bench.

Him and Long are assistant coaches, and from what I can gather, have day to day responsibility for running training.
Holbrook mentioned at an event I was at last week with Mike Rush, that the biggest difference for him now being a Head Coach, is that he doesn't get to speak to the players individually on a daily basis. Make of that what you will.

It’s not exactly controversial. The assistant coaches are the ones that hold the player reviews, look at video analysis, discuss their individual performance. The players are usually split into backs and forwards.

Interestingly enough Wigan are the only SL coach with one Assistant.

I think Lolesi does the analysis stuff and a bit of welfare and works with Wellens on performance stats. Longy is more hands on and works with the players a lot more on the attacking structures, not sure who does the defensive coaching now. If Lolesi goes maybe Wellens steps up especially with so much experience of defence, maybe he is already doing some of that now.

Talking to some players last night and all of them were very complementary about Lolesi. They all said he has been very influential and said he will be difficult to replace and sad to see him go.

I think Wellens will step up and I see him as head coach in a couple of years time.

I don’t see the club going down the ex player route again anytime soon. I can see Long going elsewhere to gain experience as a head coach and returning a few years down the road to coach Saints.

I remember both Millward and Anderson were very complimentary in saying Longy has the potential to be a top coach.

Longy does stats as well for video review. Things like positive/negative ending to sets.

And in unrelated coaching news, Francis Meli has just coached one of my local high schools to the NZRL secondary schools championship. Quite a few students go onto good careers in NRL and Super Rugby so he is dealing with talent.

He is responsible for the "middles" and according to JH is highly regarded in camp for what he has done. He's going back to Aus as his family are growing up and now is the time. Has not received the public credit, but will be missed.

Good luck to the guy! As for looking after the bench what a pity KC didn't do that job instead of dragging the club down to the point of alienating ALL the supporters. A duster and a can of Mr Sheen give the benches a polish once or twice a week would have suited him down to the ground.
On the Back foot looking for the front one.

He's survived several coaches. He speaks a lot of sense and is articulate. He's leaving of his own accord. Sounds like a recipe for success to me. Sad to see him move on, but the best of luck to him.

Only heard him a few times and wasn't overly impressed. But unless your close to what happens we don't really know, best of luck to him

Holbrook has confirmed they will not be looking for a replacement. They will continue with Long,Wellens and Talbot will do more work with the first team.
