Default 19 man squad v Warrington

Zeb Taia returns to the line-up in place of the injured Adam Swift.

Justin Holbrook will select his 17 from:

    1. Jonny Lomax, 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Ryan Morgan, 4. Mark Percival, 6. Theo Fages, 9. James Roby, 10. Kyle Amor, 11. Zeb Taia, 12. Jon Wilkin, 13. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 14. Normally you'd look at that and say Lees and Ashworth to miss out but after the way they played v Wigan it's a tough one. Wouldn't surprise me to see Amor or Douglas "rested" to allow at least one of the younger lads to stay in.

Assuming everyone else is fit I would have a stab at:

Barba, Makinson, Morgan, Percival, Grace, Lomax, Richardson, Thompson, Roby, Amor/Douglas, Peyroux, Taia, Wilkin

    Fages, Knowles, LMS, Lees/Ashworth

Ashworth/Lees and Douglas/Amor to miss out.

I’m not convinced we will see Ben Barba. JH said...”Ben has had that niggle and we don't want to play him till he is right. So hopefully he will be right to play this week”.

That's a good call, as is Douglas being the player to get a rest. He's a canny player and does a lot of clever stuff in terms of finding his front/quick PTB and controlling the pace of the game in defence, but he's the oldest prop we have and I think Thompson & Amor have had breaks in the past few weeks.

His “niggle” seemed to coincide with EMcM statement that he isn’t returning to the NRL and JH bringing him off early a few games ago

I hadn't read that bit when I first posted to be honest. So yeah it could be that Barba gets another week off and we play 4 forwards on the bench again.

As much as I want to see him this week, if there is any risk it ain’t worth it. But maybe he might need a game before the ‘big game’ to get things going.

Looks like Saints have put the wrong Wire squad out. According to the Wire site Goodwin and Masilla both return along with Westwood.

Douglas has been doing much more work this past few weeks. He seems much more involved than last year.

I think Douglas is pretty good defensively I can't see him not playing.

His 'niggle was a rib cartilage injury sustained at Hull.

    Barba
    Makinson Morgan Percival Grace
    Richardson Lomax
    Amor Roby Thompson
    Peyroux Taia
    Wilkin

    Douglas, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Knowles, Fages.

Last couple of times I’ve watched Warrington, Daryl Clark has looked really dangerous. Whenever there’s a marker on the floor or the line isn’t set and they get Clark out of dummy half with Ratchford pushing with him, they look dangerous. Chris Hill is really important for them in that sense. I thought our forwards did well last week though and put Roby on the front foot.

Looking forward to it actually and think it has the potential to be a really good game.

Squad as put on Warrington’s website.

Sitaleki Akauola, Kevin Brown, Mitch Brown, Josh Charnley, Daryl Clark, Mike Cooper, Bryson Goodwin, Chris Hill, Jack Hughes, George King, Toby King, Tom Lineham, Harvey Livett, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Declan Patton, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Tyrone Roberts, Ben Westwood

Looks like neither coach is putting out a weakened team prior to the semi finals.

We could do with having a fully fit Ben Barba back for this one. In a game potentially this close he could be the difference. Wire have got a decent record at LP and will come out firing. Being top of the league everyone wants to beat us. Where some teams are overawed by playing against us i think Warrington won’t fear us at all. They will want to make a statement that they are real title contenders this year.

I’d like to see Knowles at second row again even if it is unlikely. He was excellent there against Wigan and we are definitely better when Wilkin is at 13. Would probably have given Lomax a rest, he takes some big hits every game.

Shame for Swift. Getting injuries at this stage of the season and Holbrook's policy of rewarding performance and consistency, will make it difficult for players to get into the team as we get closer and closer to the playoffs.

Barring injuries/niggles it's hard to see many changes to what we've been running with recently. Would be good to see Ashworth and/or Lees to get another call up and reward for their endeavours in the derby.

I think it was a dislocation, not a fracture.

I’m sure Saints announced it was a compound fracture.

They said a compound dislocation. I had never heard of such a thing before.

Yes there was some confusion. First I heard it was compound dislocation then compound fracture. I would imagine the first suggestion would be nearer the truth. Couldn't imagine him coming back so soon otherwise.

Either way seems swift given he had surgery.

I would not risk anyone not 100%. We are sitting pretty and have bigger games to come.

Holbrook said it was just a case of waiting for the wound to heal over
