Trying to lift the mood a bit, but what would Phil Clarke have said about last night’s incidents
‘Well what you must look at is, Currie actually causes the head and a deliberately butts Brown”

I’d be interested in what he would say about the Harry Smith spear tackle. For understandable reasons, Clarke took the moral high ground in relation to spear tackles, usually with a “there’s no place for them in our game” type comment. However, would his Wigan bias have resulted in “he didn’t mean to do that, Harold Smith is not a dirty player”?
I think Jon Wells has been handed the mantle of the Great Man. Spouting nonsense re the Smith Spear Tackle and compounding his inheritance of Clarke's position by trying to justify the absolute nonsense we saw at Wire, trying to defend the indefensible. This coupled with the fact that arch Clarke disciple Rogues quoted Wells re the legality of Smith's spear tackle also leads me to think that wells is the new Clarke. In defence of SKY what we saw at half time was to be applauded both Carney and Wilkin, first reasonably and then emotionally calling out the debacle they were witnessing. These men are paid by SKY to present a sport, which now has every game live on their channels, as Wilkin implored they want to talk about RL and not rules, officials and the death slow death pf the game. If the ref had applied the rules consistently it would have ended six v six on thepitch!
The Aussie commentators on the pre-season matches this morning were also talking about the number of red cards and suspensions so far in Super League
Last week the Smith incident was put down to the other player "putting himself in an awkward position" as far as I can see last night could be described similarly with Currie being just as much to blame for accidentally cutting his head. I just hope that Bentham and the referees begin to see sense and not act impulsively as they appear to be doing at the moment. The Hull player involved has made a brilliant reasoned and courteous statement about the incident which should be read by all refs
Agreed, that was a very good statement from Nu Brown.
I think Wilkin in particular has quickly got sick of defending the indefensible. How recently was he on there defending the yellow card decision for the Harry Smith tackle? But yesterday he genuinely looked angry and upset about the damage this is doing to the sport of rugby league. It makes me very very sad.
What if the MRP compound the refereeing error by imposing a ban? Really there should be an apology and better guidelines about accidental clashes from the RFL but I can envisage the error now being compounded in order to save face and consequential uproar from the fans, players, press and clubs.
I’m not against tightening up existing rules or against new rules if the aim is to protect players but accidents can’t always be avoided in a contact sport and the only logical way forward in the case of an accidental head clash is to make sure both players are all right and to play on or, heaven forbid, send both players off for lack of proper care.
No player wants to clash heads like that as they could just as easily injure themselves. Would the attacking player have been sent off if the defender came off worst? What happens when 2 players from the same team clash heads as this often happens? The rule is unworkable for accidental head clashes.
Blah blah blah blah Wigan, blah blah blah blah Wigan, Wigan, Wigan, blah blah blah blah
He'd just have spent 5 minutes talking about his beloved Wigan then made some feeble passing comment on the actual incident.
In other words - who gives a rats ars$ what Clarke would have said - he's a useless commentator who's long gone.
He would have tipped London to win the league.
He would have berated Liam Moore for going to the video ref for Wardles try in the WCC as in Clarkes opinion it was about a meter over the line, clear as day.
What is he doing nowadays, expect he has landed on his feet somewhere?
