    Default Penalty Try

Watching the Leeds game something struck me. There was a try that went up as a try and if not, a penalty try. Handley scored but there was going to be a penalty try anyway. Because it was a try the kick was obviously at point of touchdown which was wide out . I think because there was a penalty try decided this should override everything so the kick is in front. Am I missing something?

Don't they normally take the try scored, kick in line with where the try was scored then give a penalty under the sticks?

    That’s what they did.

That’s an eight point try where a player commits a penalty such as a late hit when someone actually scores. Different procedure than a penalty try

Yep that was the Newman try....Handley was fouled in the act of scoring but still managed to score. But it would have even given as a PT if he didn't score. Just seems you can get penalised for scoring by having a harder kick

But you do get a second kick from in front of the posts.

You only get the second kick in front of the posts if you are fouled in the act of scoring (as with Newman’s try when he was hit by Sims). If you score a try having been obstructed, and a penalty try would otherwise have been given had you failed to reach and ground the ball, then the conversion is taken in line with where the touchdown was and a second kick in front of the posts is not given (as was the case with Handley’s try when Yaha tackled him early but he still grounded the ball).

Which is my point....Leeds would have scored 6 instead of 4. Handley was penalised for being honest. The penalty try should still be the decision thus making it a straightforward kick

Being fouled in the act of scoring is not the same as a foul preventing you scoring. Some people missing the point here.
