Default Parking Charge Notice. The Range

Someone I know as just received a parking charge notice for overstaying the 2hrs in the range car park. They were actually there for 2hrs 30mins. 15 minutes of this was spent putting goods in car and trying to get a 3 week old baby into the car. They were with another person and between them spent £210. The charge is £60 if paid within a certain time going up to £100. They've emailed The Range who basically don't want to know. They've appealed to the car park company. Anybody had any experience with charges from parking at the range.

Yes. Virtually the same scenario but swap out 3 week old baby for elderly mother who gets overtaken by snails.

I went into the Range with my receipts as proof of purchase and told Customer Services what had happened. They immediately said they would tell the parking company to withdraw the notice. They reckoned that would be that but if I were to get any more literature from the parking company to bring it in and they would deal with it. They were right as I heard no more about it.

Firstly - don't shop there again

Secondly, please check on this advice but I'm reasonably confident that it will be unenforceable, just ignore it. I had the same with Waterworld in Stoke and just ignored them.

There is some good advice under Martin Lewis of Money Supermarket. They are invoices not fines. Just check it out.

Aye, MSE is a great site for a whole load of things

The only thing I will add is upon reading back it looks like your friend has tried to appeal. This might change things...its a whole load easier for them to take action.

Essentially, since it is not the local council issuing a fine and is instead a private company issuing a charge, they could do pretty much sod all other than to take you to court for a breach of contract. Even then, they could only trace the registered vehicle owner who is not necessarily the person parking the car.

If they have no contact from you, then they would struggle to enforce it however now that they have then it might change things. That said, its far more likely that they will hound the person for a bit and then give up and sell the "debt" onto someone else.

Sadly there is a recent case that allows them to pursue it on a civil basis as the 'loss' is the cost of enforcement.I will find the case and post it later.Be careful.

ps don't shop there again !

Beavis v Parking Eye Ltd is the case.Just have a look but like me I will never shop in Bargain buys again by ASDA-I was going to shop in the BB but nipped to ASDA to get a prescription first but some jobsworth saw me leave the site and put a charge on my car. I looked into it but this case led me to pay up as one of the conditions was not leaving site. But they wont see another pound of my money and I tell everyone I meet what a **** shop it is.
