    Default Levy Nzoungou

Don't know if I've missed a thread on this, but former Academy player Levy Nzoungou seems to have left Melbourne Storm's junior set-up, and has been having a trial back at Toulouse - being sub in two recent first team games.

Who can forget the prop's length of the field try in his first (?) game at Saints? Had us all wondering if we'd unearthed a superstar in the making.

I hope he kicks on and can make a career in the sport, but he could join the long list of kids who excelled in the junior ranks owing largely to their advanced physical development but, once they start playing against guys the same size, struggle to make an impact.

Don't want to be dissing a junior player but I fear the Melbourne opportunity was going to be make or break in terms of a stepping stone for his career. He's a big unit and has a lot of potential but from what I've seen of him, fitness doesn't come naturally and he's prone to some brain farts. Shame as he had the physical stature to make it. I know a lot of people in the community have supported him and have a lot of time for him as a person, he's apparently a nice and respectful lad, just maybe not worked out for him. I can't help but feel that he needed to go to Melbourne with a different mindset and want to be in the fittest shape of his life so he can achieve his potential.

He's a 20 year old prop forward. He's got plenty of time on his side.

Signed for Toulouse on loan until the end of this season

Happened to be in southern France a couple of weeks ago. Decided to go to Toulouse against Rochdale rather than Perpignan to watch the Dragons.

Levy came on as substitute and showed some good touches against an admittedly outclassed Hornets team. Game was played in 34 degrees heat so not easy for anyone.

Nice set up at the Olympique with a small but enthusiastic crowd. The ground whilst a little out of central Toulouse was nice and on the banks of the Garronne.

A middle 8s game with Catalan will be a real boost for the French game if it happens. Suspect Toulouse are a few years off Super League standard but good luck to Levy and them.

Agreed we're often too quick to write off young forwards

What were the circumstances that led to him leaving us? Did we offer him a contract or did he decide to go to Melbourne after we had shown him the door?

I think it was the latter (oddly enough).

The kid is an athlete and very quick for a prop forward.

Unfortunately I think his defensive qualities left a lot to be desired.

It's this side of his game that I think was the reason he was released.

it'll be interesting to see how he goes. I liked what I saw of him when he was here.
