Rogues might know and I should imagine will come on here to advise.
Not winter RL but just thought I'd put this on. If anyone is wanting a great game to watch, when the season starts get down to Thatto Ladies and watch them. Skill level is fantastic, great set of ladies too.
Thanks to that gang at Red Hall the amateur game is all but decimated. The genius move to summer has made lots of clubs, teams and ultimately leagues disappear. An absolute crying shame.
Perhaps try rugby union at Moss Lane, West Park or Ruskin Park

This is the most depressing statement I've read on here for a long time. It puts Saints' problems in context.
I've lived away from St Helens for about 35 years and spent 4 years in Newcastle upon Tyne and 2 years in London before that and so have no insights into the amateur game in the heartlands. If Red Hall's kowtowing to Sky has led to less people not playing the game, it explains why it is harder and harder to find quality halfbacks and why the professional game is duller.
Without the amateur game the professional game is dead in the water. I am aware that there has been some progress in expanding the game in areas outside the heartlands but we need a production line on home territory. I'm now just going to listen to Leonard Cohen to cheer myself up.

There is a significant amount of student Rugby League around till about march, it takes place on Wednesday afternoons if you are free to watch it, pretty much most uni's have at least one team, good teams locally are Edge Hill, Chester and Liverpool John Moores.
