Once we get cut off from the top 4 which isnt going to be long at this rate the season is over.

Rather than panic buy why not blood some of the reserves on a rotation type basis. Give some of them a real chance and we will have a better idea of where we are at.

We can then plan properly for the next few years

Dont see much of the NRL so cant really comment. A 47 second season highlights clip on youtube doesn't fill me with confidence though.

We are at a key point as if we consistently slip out of the top 4 we will struggle to land the better players and will end up having to lower expectations.

Am not looking forward to the top 8s - if we get cut loose from the top 4 how do you motivate the players and the crowd and can see some more disasterous results.

Interesting being linked to some big names. Is like the Alex Murphy days all over again when we were linked with everyone and signed no-one

More top quality comments from KC, you really couldnt make it up

"Cunningham said: “The thing you have to realise in sport, especially where a salary cap is involved, that you hold your nerve a little bit and don’t panic-buy.

“The latter is something we have done in the past and ended up with players on two or three year contracts. Then after a year we are saying what the hell are they doing at this club.”

He added: “We have to be smart when doing our shopping and will only bring a player on board of proven quality.”"

No we don't, Amor is good, Walmsley can be however they are our two dangerous props at the moment. Stop them and we don't play well. Bit easy to defend really! Get another in who will offer a threat and add in Thompson who will hopefully return to form and we might be a different proposition

Wonder who is the 2016 equivalent of Vinnie Jones?

Vinnie Jones - I can still remember reading that in disbelief. Wonder how much if any truth was in it or just short of space in the paper that week.

Not sure about a modern day equivalent - in Vinnie's day you could at least tackle in football which is now pretty much non contact

I think you answer your own question when you say the following:

Contracts for next season will be getting sorted out now. If we hold fire until the end of the season we'll have missed out (again) on all the best available players.

Once we're out of touch with the top 4, which will probably be soon, I've got no problem with giving some of the better lads from the reserves some game time in SL, but the reality is that the coaching staff will have a pretty good idea already of who is ready/good enough and who isn't. Sometimes when you give a lad a run in the first team he'll overturn your expectations, but it only happens once in a while. At a time when several players are out of contract and we need a pretty substantial rebuild of the squad, we can't afford to sit out of the recruitment market and hope that we've got some undiscovered gems in the reserves.

I am not a fan of Frank Paul but we are definitely short a prop due to Tasi being a pudding, Richards needing more development and Thompsons head injuries.

He is a player you would expect to do well in Super League.

Our other weakness is on the wing. We are also looking at Escare, who is a fullback that can't tackle which in the modern game is the definition of a winger. So at least they are trying to recruit where we are weak.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.
