    Default Wigan Chairman's Statement

When we look at Wigan as a Club and the performance this year, I think the feeling we've not achieved what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the season is obvious to me, to the coaches, the players, the fans and I take responsibility for that as Chairman. That ultimately is my responsibility that we've not achieved what we set out to achieve. But the nice thing about Wigan is that we take that responsibility together. So it's as much your fault as it mine or Waney's. We're a great, closely-knit group of people and we know when we do well and we know when we don't achieve the high standard that we want to achieve but as you're lying there with your Sister in Whelley moaning about the lads,
remember we share the blame and there's more of you than us so you take way more blame than we do. Shove that in your Galloways.

Did Dave Whelan allow him access to his stadium to admit that.

I've read it twice now and I don't think it's a great statement.

I know it was aimed at Wigan fans, and I know I'm looking with a Saints bias but it just doesn't have a nice tone about it.

We could probably all dissect it and find things that don't sit well but for me one bit that stands out is:

'The way we've dealt with the Ben Flower incident has been full of integrity and professionalism and that's the way we carry on.'

I think that incident was dealt with by St Helens (led superbly by Eamonn & Lance off the field and Wello on it!) and the RFL. Whatever we may think, the general consensus is that the incident was dealt with very very well (some people compared it to the John Terry racism incident which just dragged on for months).

Wigan's part seemed to consist of not appealing the decision (- a fact that he is obviously extremely proud of!). Don't bring up one of the most notorious incidents that you will see in the game and try to associate it with the perpetrating club's integrity and professionalism - choose other things the club has done. And please don't take credit for 'dealing with it!'

'This is not a Wigan thing, although the club have still not acknowledged that branding opponents as “Road Kill” in Michael Maguire’s years as coach, or his successor Shaun Wane’s instruction to his players to “create mayhem” before a game in New Zealand earlier this year, was unacceptable.'

"We've won four finals in a row to lose one is very difficult."

Not only is his inability to use punctuation absolutely horrendous (which only adds to my suspicion that he puts that posh accent on) but I'm struggling to think of those 'four finals in a row' that they won. Didn't they lose a couple of World Club Challenges? Or are we going to pretend a massive, one-chance-only game for a trophy isn't classed as a 'final'?
