Because if it was him they wouldn't wait until an appropriate time in the close season, that suggests they need the time to go after someone else.

That's a very forward thinking shout that. League legend and been involved with some very big occasions in union.

Any considerations regarding how long the new coach is likely to endure life in South Lancashire will be rightly ignored. The contracts are all fixed term anyway and recent history indicates that most coaches are lucky to see three years in the job.

The Chairman will have a person in mind already and be looking at a 2/3 years contract to secure the man (or woman, Mongolian, Martian et al).

Does that rule Kieron out as he played for Wales.

It says an appropriate time to announce it, not decide who it's going to be. It isn't appropriate to announce Cunningham as the new coach when we have a final to prepare for.

Plenty of thinking for the Chairman. We desperately need stability at the club. The recent cycle of a new coach every one or two years isn't helping us. I would take Powell in a heartbeat and give him a three year contract with the option of a fourth. Can't see it happening though. I think Dennis Betts is a decent shout. Wasn't sure sbout him at first but done an excellent job at Widnes and has served a decent apprenticeship. Somebody who hasn't shown they can do the job (head coach) already shouldn't be considered in my opinion. I would go with either of these.

As Stevo was saying last night Tim Sheens and Mal Meninga might be available/ interested. If not them then Daryl Powell or Paul Anderson

I would be shocked if that happened but certainly not disappointed. Wigan fans would be devastated which would be an added bonus. Hanley coached us and a lot was made in the press about him being an ex Wigan captain so why not?

For what it's worth I reckon it'll be Cunningham with a new well experienced assistant coach coming onboard, someone like Kear who's isn't going to get a Super League head coach job but has lots of experience.

I heard this yesterday but at this point it's only a rumour.

I think this has been on the cards for sometime and may well have been a mutual agreement from early in the season. NB has been instrumental in rebuilding this side with Mr McManus and leaves us in a much healthier state than before he arrived, however I feel he's a square peg in a round hole as far as the dressing room is concerned. Only the Chairman and CEO really know what the plans for the future are and whatever they decide will be in the best interests of the club.

I think this is good and I also think " Roy Litherland and Rogues Gallery " seem to have a bit of an idea.

You can see his logic. If Brown leaving was unsettling and KC was already the chosen one why would we not simply come out and say it to stop all the speculation? We haven't, therefore you can't conclude that it will definitely be KC at this stage.

Wouldn't naming KC also bring its own distractions this week. Everyone has a role to play and Kierons is number two this week. Team and players can only have one focus this week. The speculation is for us as a distraction really as we countdown to Saturday.

I guess you can see it either way in fairness. It's evident to me that this news is not a surprise to the hierarchy at the club and I applaud them for keeping it house until Nathan's Dad had a brain explosion with the Press. I take some comfort in the fact that they probably already know who will be in the box seat next season so let's wait and see. I don't think it will be a surprise.

I haven't said it will definitely be him. Up until reading the other thread a few minutes ago I was confident it would be him.

Isn't there a quote from KC years ago that said he didn't want to be head coach because clubs sack head coaches, and he wanted to stay at Saints forever?

Either that did happen or I've had a really weird dream.

    Cunningham and Long?

Exactly. I mean, what do they know about building a successful Saints side in Super League??
