Ill be honest, if we beat Cas tonight and then Hudds get through their next game, Id fancy using our club call to select them in the semi final on that showing.
We have had some embarrassing performances this season, but last nights game has to be up there.
Wigan look fantastic if teams let them look fantastic. Wigan have been beaten several times this season in exactly the same way. Bloody hard work, then Wigan just fall apart. It needs teams to get right into Wigan's face, fast defence line speed when defending. Pull in their 4 man tacklers/defenders when attacking then offload. Every team that's beaten them (including us) have played like that this season.
Wigan fall apart when put under pressure. They look unbeatable when they are allowed the room. Huddersfield did that.
The downside of that is it is bloody hard work and draining. Only the fittest of teams can keep that up for 80 minutes against Wigan, and the team has to be mentally up for it which sometimes Saints isn't.
Our main problem is composure in big games. We don't have any.

Which is what we always did have. How many times did we do teams at the death?
I think the league leaders shield is a first step in building a team to get us back to the top. I have in the last couple of years suggested we need to be patient. I think without the injuries were would be in with a great shout this year but it might be a big ask as we stand with no first choice 1, 7 and 13.
With most of the building blocks off the field coming good ( the ground, training facilities, finances) I do feel that the good times are not too far away now. I just hope everyone sticks with it and reaps the rewards in due course. When we finally lift a pot again its going to feel so good after a lean period. I remember a few years ago certain posters saying "I would rather win the cup this year not SL" - that is why it is good to have a fallow period and get the hunger back.
Think we have the same hymn book Div.

NEVER WRITE OFF THE SAINTS
Would Hudds not play Leeds and Cas play Wire if the home sides all won? If so I only see the call being between Wire and Leeds and I am not sure there is any advantage choosing either, they are both very similar in terms of quality and have the ability to beat both Wigan and Saints on one of their better days
I am not completely writing off Widnes yet to be thrown into the mix.
With the injuries Wire have and the passion that Widnes can generate in the derby - especially as underdogs - I am not rulling them out of the games next week
If we win tonight , the club call will be interesting . We will in all likelihood have to choose between Leeds and Wire, as I can't see either Cas or Hudds getting anything but a hiding of the other two. Every club seems to hate the idea of club call, but I imagine Wire/leeds would be praying to be picked by us or for that matter Cas if they win tonight. I'm just made up we won the shield and will be happy enough if we put in decent shifts in our play off games. Can't see us winning the GF but strange things happen in sport and even with our injuries we are a better team than many would have you believe.
can you imagine us meeting wire at old trafford?? they would bill it the battle of the bottlers

Crazy play from Widnes
That wire try just before HT may well change the momentum in this game. Stupid play by Widnes, really dumb.
Wire will win this comfortably
Well not comfortably
