Default Sinfield retires from England duty

Right move I think, let somebody else have a chance as he won't be at the next world cup. Who would everyone have as captain now and who would be your halfback pairing?

My choice would be Jammer with Widdop and Matty Smith (lack of available alternatives) as the halves
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

I agree with you. Sam Burgess would have been my choice if he hadn't decided to go to rugby union

If McNamara wants a true leader, who can vocally rally the team, who has passion, pride and give a 100 per cent then Jammer is differently the man.

Thought you meant Jammer and Widdop in the halves then

Sinfield was/is a good steady eddie with a kicking game, but he's really the base line of what England needs. Widdop is the obvious choice, but we've got a few more decent options than we used to, I think.

Sinfield should have gone years ago. Couldn't cut it in the big time. cost us the against NZ in the last world cup too.

He kept us in contention too didn't he? Can't remember exactly but didn't he set up two tries.

Sinfield is great for Leeds but sadly lacks the physicality to cut it in the pack against Australia and NZ, and he lacks the pace required to be effective in the halves at international level. Never been good enough.

Ran out of the line for the NZ try.

Shaun Wane says "Give the captaincy to O'Loughlin".

    No surprise there then!

I wouldnt mind O Loughlin following Sinfields lead and retiring from international rugby. His body isnt up to a full SL season at the moment so having the off season off could be vital for his long term career.

I would give it to James Graham

Yes, but you're not thinking of how he kept is in the game by setting up tries. Without him we wouldn't have been in with a chance of winning before he slipped.

I'd personally prefer the captain to be a British based player. But seeing as the coach isn't based here then what does it matter?

Tomkins would be my pick. Much more of a household name in non rugby league households.

O'Loughlin would be a good shout, probably edge out Jammer due to being based in the UK. Then I'd have Widdop and then struggle but would probably go with Matty Smith to partner him. Or if you want to take a punt Sneyd from Cas.

O'Loughlin isn't likely to be around at the next World Cup, especially with his injuries. The next captain has to be someone who can lead us to the World Cup in 2017.

I think O'Loughlin is a great player and would be a great choice for a captain, except for the fact he's hardly on the pitch. I can't see it being long until he follows suit in order to concentrate on getting as many season in for Wigan as possible.

Not Sneyd at international level, he's a poor defender from when i've seen him.

Would rather have a creative half who can't defend than an ordinary half back who can defend. We've lacked a creative spark in the halves since Longy retired.
