    Default andre savelio

This is in reply to comments from talk some sense regarding andres attitude. I don't know who you are or what you suspect
You might know about him but I can assure you it does nothing to help the situation when comments like this are put out
there. It's not the first time it's been brought to my attention so this time I will stand up for him.

In February last year andre had a first team contract, his licence, a car hed saved hard for, a great set of friends - he had
everything he had worked hard to achieve. Overnight that changed he was rushed to hospital. Still in his saints kit from training with mud on his hands, unable to talk or walk. He was treated for suspected meningitis/encephalitis. It was touch and go for 24hrs but he pulled through. From then on andre struggled daily, helped by saints andre was in and out of hospital and eventually in december Andres condition was diagnosed by walton neuro he had auto immune encephalitis
we were told he was very lucky he could have died or been left disabled. He began treatment which was only completed
    six weeks ago.

Andre has battled back and is still so every day. How he debuted against leeds i still cannot believe. He had to resit his licence which he lost, he missed preseason
because of medication so he is behind everybody else. He has been left with mood and motivation disorder that we are
working on and he is getting better.

He has turned down nrl and saints offers until he knows that h3 can be as good as he was and intended to be.

He has got through this 18months with the help and understanding of nathan brown, the saints dr, derek traynor, mike rush and all the players at saints who we are grateful to.

Andre wants to be a great player for saints but at this moment in time as his mother im grateful to have him alive
and will continue to stand by him.

I think some comments are better kept to yourself unless you know the facts as in this case they are certainly not conducive
    To the healing process.

    Thanks

Any knowledgable Saints fan should know what he went through last year. We should all be grateful that Andre is still able to play rugby today.

Good luck to him in the rest of his journey and I have no doubt what so ever that he will have a very successful career no matter where he may be playing his rugby.

    Thank you for posting.

I personally have never commented on Andre's attitude. He isn't the first young Saints player to attract such comments and I don't understand why some Saints fans want to put down a young player in that way.

From my own POV, I have been really impressed by the impact Andre has made when he has played in the first team and I could not understand why he wasn't given more game time in subsequent matches especially considering the metres he made for us whenever he took to the field. I had, probably quite naturally given the physical nature of rugby league, assumed that Andre was fully recovered from his reported illness otherwise how could he possibly cope with the demands of rugby league?

Your post has explained the situation. I am just sorry that the reason you have felt the need to explain has been criticism from some Saints fans.

I would like to say that a great many fans think very highly of Andre and those people hold high hopes for him at Saints. Many Redvee members have questioned why he isn't getting more games and your post probably goes some way to explaining why he isn't.

Well said and thanks for such an in depth explanation. Hopefully he will continue on his road to a full recovery and go on to be the great player his potential has shown so far.

I knew beforehand that he had been through an illness of some description. But I don't think many of us were aware of the specifics, complications and timescales of the recovery. We've only seen him on the field briefly in the first team, where he's looked good. As I've said before, I would have like to have seen him playing a couple more times this years, not all the time, but maybe against some of the lesser teams earlier on in the year.

Hopefully, he can continue to recover, because he's certainly got the potential to be a cracking player for us. But there's no need for us to rush him, or any player into the first team before he's ready.

He was obviously going to be a great player and hopefully still is but the main thing is getting his health and strength back, all the best no matter what so long as he is healthy. thank you for coming on it must have been a terrible time for you all.

Just wanted to say what a nice lad Andre is, I bumped into him at Wembley last year when the World Cup semi-finals were held there and had a quick conversation with him and he was more than happy to chat and come across as a great lad.

    If carlsberg did first posts

Excellent to read, far too many are very keen to make comments without the full picture

Savelio had said earlier in the year that "all would be explained" but that wasn't enough for some people

I think it's a shame at a great club like St. Helens, that a players mum has to divulge what has gone on in a players life to protect him. A little embarrassing on the club too tbh. Obviously this has been an awful situation to deal with for player and family. At such a young age too. I'd be lost just without my license. I thought we got behind our players and the badge.
I'm sorry mrs savelio that you've had to come here just to protect your son. He's a quality prospect and I hope he recovers well and becomes a key player for saints.

Maybe just maybe he didn't want anybody to know and the club went along with his wishes. Then we had all the Internet cowboys speculating and his mother has had enough and has come on here to set the record straight.

I agree whole heartedly with that, except that I don't see how the club are at fault. I am sure they would divulge the reasons behind his absence from the first team squad, if they felt they needed to, or if Andre or his family thought it was required. The simple fact is, that his mum has posted what she did to prevent any other rumours or untruths being circulated, and those rumours and untruths did not come from the club, but this forum.

Maybe I've come across a little different to how I wanted to. I don't think the club are at fault. Far from it. Sounds like they've looked after him well. I meant it's a shame that at a club like our that we have fans who start rumours etc against one of our own. Sorry about that

No need to apologise, I think we singing from the same hymn sheet on this, along with many other of the members of this forum. I just hope it serves as a lesson for the future, that we are all careful about what we post.

A very dignified response to some unfair comments. I am sure Andre will make it as a great player with the support of his mum and family, and the club and supporters.

An excellent post, just a shame you felt you had to come on and make it. As you ay, with what's happened, how he has appeared so impressive during the brief glimpses we've had of him so far is nothing short of amazing. Shows what determination he has, along with the rugby skills he clearly possesses.

As others have said, recovery / health comes first, but really hope to see him turning it on for us in the years to come.

Hopefully, those who unthinkingly come on here to disrespect players may, just may, think twice before posting in future; if so, your post has done more than just support your son Mrs Savelio, but other players too.
