If he plays, yes I will believe it when brown picks him, then has a blinder like he did at Warrington he still wont be certain of being picked next game, Wilkin plays better in the pack and the team plays better but brown prefers him in the halves.
I hope he has a blinder and keeps lance out of the side. Nothing against lance, he's played well this year, but he has been poor for 2 seasons prior and I'd rather see a good local home grown lad reach his potential.
Thing is he's not really a lad now is he and that's the issue.
At the start of this year he got huge raps from Brown saying he was the most gifted/talented halfback at the club. But being brilliant on paper and putting it on the field is another matter.
I'm no Lance hugger and Wheeler was my starting 6 before a ball was kicked. But this year has been a year too far for me to hold the faith. Even when he has played it's not really happened. I wish him well a few good games and he will get a contract somewhere next year. But I think his time has already gone at Saints, especially when we are looking for a top quality player to play in the halfback role.
We all know he's been unlucky. He's not been a first choice No6 at the club so games have been few and far between and when he's had his chance he's picked up an injury. I really hope this is the time to see him shine, not in the centers but in his natural position with a potential string of games ahead of him.
I have every faith in him that he'll do us proud tonight and in future weeks. COYW!
He started at Catalan and had a poor game.
Who didn't!?

It so makes me laugh how certain players get stick constantly and evrryone joins in unabated. Kick the wounded dog and your a heathen. Until there is a quota requirement for out and out crocks, I dont think we need him.
Actually played ok tonight under the circumstances.
Given what's happened tonight he's now got a golden chance as the main man - up to him to take it.
I'll be honest, i thought Turner showed more in 25 minutes at half back than Wheeler did, seemed to really take the team by the scruff of the neck
We can't rely on Gary Wheeler
Yep. That's why I said OK, nothing more but admit I totally overlooked Turner as a half back and thought he had one of his best games tonight especially with that slip pass to Tommy Makinson. Feel a bit more optimistic now.
I always though Wheeler played his best first team rugby at left centre. Decent step and good hands, but don't see the ability to change or control a game from the halves from him.
Completely underwhelming in those circumstances his decision making and passing in particular were poor. Even in the situation we are in Brown may be reluctant to pick him if Wilkin is fit again especially as he has already mentioned Wellens going into the halves.
