I was a boy when the war ended. Around '46 or '47 I remember going to the Palladium on Boundary Road - for a Sunday evening cinema screening. My mother, Bless her - very old school - predicted terrible things so it was a relief when the roof didn't fall in on me.

I should imagine that Sunday cinema was starting all over the UK around this time, presumably through a Parliamentary Act, but can anyone tell me if there was some sort of local vote, a referendum or something? It is difficult to imagine such a change to the way we were back then without local involvement, but was it left to the Council to decide? Knowing will not change my life an iota, but it would good to learn after all these years what actually did happen.
