It just so happens that my eld fella's offspring weren't glory hunters and supported Spurs through thick and thin, good and bad. Too easy to support United and enjoy the glory years without really loving the game. You have to suffer to really love the sport IMO.

Fantastic. Just updated my avatar. Like it.
And yet for those of us like me who were brought up in the early 80s, it would have been much easier to support Liverpool or Everton if indeed I was a glory hunter.

My Dad grew up in the Best, Law, Charlton era and fell in love with Utd. His two older brothers support Liverpool.

I am from Haydock which if you travel down the Lancs, is about 18 miles to Liverpool and 20 to Manchester. Hardly a Scouser am I? Neither am I a Manc,

The 80s were not great years to be at school as a Utd fan. Imagine going 10 years now with only two FA Cups? There would be riots

And reading Fergie as our "ex manager" is like a dagger through my heart. Starting to sink in more now

Defensive Mancs have jumped all over me here !

Reacher, you're exempt. You obviously went through the hard times and picked the right horse so you're not so bad.

TSS, you make some good points although I'm not sure finishing 2nd on the last day is really suffering. DD saw City go down to Division Two and then rise to where they are. That is suffering. I've watched Spurs win the FA Cup at Wembley, be nothing to anybody for years, become decent and start losing all our best players to sides above us and now lose out on the CL on the last couple of weeks of the season for 3 of the last 5 years. I'm now waiting for us to sell arguably the 3rd best player in world football to some leaching club that didn't get him in the first place. You do not know what suffering is !

I know you know my story of why I supported Utd as I have said it before. It was more for the benefit of the newbies.

Indeed. It may surprise you but my moaning about glory hunting Mancs is actually not with you in mind. Just the rest. Anybody under the age of 25/30 for me is quite simply a glory hunter.

    Ok i'll bite yet again.

So you think that because the team I was brought up with are successful that I should just stop supporting them?
It can't be helped by me that we're successful, and I was only ever going to be a United fan seeing as my parents were.

Apologies, you're right. Mancunians I can understand. Although in fairness, there aren't many of those that support United

Never bothered with an avatar on here before but its decent isn't it ? Happy with that, bit of personality

About 3/4 of people in Manchester support United. It's been proven time and time again.

    Reeled in a big one

Population of Manchester estimated at circa 500,000. You honestly reckon 375,000 support United ? I bet they do not.

Your loss my friend. Ask your United supporting mates on here. I am an invaluable source of balance. It prevents the thread from descending into United mania. There are folk on here that would have you believe that De Gea is world class

No, like I say it's a different kind of emotion no doubt but it was hard to take there's no doubt about that. Footballs a game full of highs and lows for every fan isn't it, the height of the highs and the depth of the lows can only really be formed by what you've experienced over your supporting lifetime.

I just hope that at no point in the near future I need to experience 'new lows'

Anyway, spurs linked strongly tonight with David villa again, I genuinely think that one has got legs you know.

I'm coming around to the idea that Villa is a 'goer'. It would signal that Levy trusts AVB massively though and is willing to do what the manager wants as opposed to follow his own structure. There are rumours amongst Spurs fans that we are signing both Villa and Damiao, which would be nice. Two strikers that can finish would be a rarity for Spurs. All I'm bothered about is keeping Bale if I'm honest. Keep him and we can achieve, lose him and we're back to being nothing in all honesty.

Signing those two would be massive and you'd go a long way to fixing any of the problems you had last season. Keep bale, a new left back and a fully fit sandro and you're a different prospect entirely.

Put a striker in the Spurs side that can finish and we'd have had CL this year comfortably IMO. Its that simple. I hope its right.

Anyway, tad late for even me now so off to bed. Cheerio.

If you do get in the champions league maybe you'd have to change teams then so you're not a glory hunter

    That's not glory !

Look up a famous quote by the greatest Spur in history, Bill Nicholson. It begins 'the game is about the glory'......

That's it, off to bed !

For the mods. Any chance of 2 sticky football threads for next season. One to talk about general football and the other for all man utd fans to have a love in and tell each other how great their team is.
