Great player Shane - maybe undervalued. I think he could sometimes be a bit lazy and go missing in games, and that's why he wasn't as well rated or remembered. He had great hands, vision and a rugby brain tough too - a maverick and an enigma at the same time. In a better all around team - i think he would have won the lot. Not sure he'd fare as well in today's game of mostly athletes with less personality - but i'd love to see more of the creativity and rugby nous of the type that Cooper brought.

Cooper was coming to the end as the full time era was starting, his speed, size, strength would have all improved in the modern game, don't know exactly what position he'd play now but he was a genius.
Who knows maybe he'd have been pumped up like O'Loughlin on the physical side, I reckon he could have played that type of role.
Anyway the guy was superb I thought.

What happened to Cooper when he finished the game. He had a great rugby brain - i wonder did he do any coaching back in NZ? I think as a tactician he could have been great - though some of his play was purely instinctive, in the moment and off the cuff. The more I talk about it - the more I miss this kind f rugby.

Some years after he finished, I saw him on sky sports or euro sport late one night with tea ropati, they had taken part in some union 7s comp as veterans or something. That's the last I saw of him.

How great it would be to have Cooper and Ropati at the height of their powers as Saints' current half-backs. They'd be best in the league by far.

Does anybody or is anybody able to put the 2006 victory against Leeds at Headlingly on? It was such a great game and for me was the moment when I thought no one will be able to stop us from winning the lot
