Does anybody else think that we have one of the smallest sides in Superleague? I had a ticket right next to the dugout last night so i could see everyone up close and personel, so to speak.

In the forwards theres only Perry of any size, and at times last night it showed, i know we were missng TP who'll give the forward line a bigger look, but i think you need a few big guys to punch holes in the defence to get the backs on a roll.

I admit we probably have the most mobile pack of forwards in the league, but sometimes you need to do the ugly things down the middle, which with the size of our pack could prove difficult this season. I dont know wether the rule changes from 12 to 10 subs has made a difference, meaning the forwards are having to play more minutes, but i think we could have done with another big prop this year. What do you think?

No different than last year, Laffranchi is a similar size to Jammer.
Perry will be like a new signing, easily our biggest forward.
But....i thought on friday night LMS & Cloughy have both got bigger and if theres a bigger more aggressive back rower than Sia Soliola - im yet to see him.
Expecting big season from LMS this year, lmpressive last year, but looks bigger & stronger this year.

We have probably got enough size. Its skill you need not just a load of giants. With the change to the substitution rules that could affect teams selection policies.

Anyway makes a nice change to the concern that we have no pace.

Not sure if that is true or not, can't say as I paid that much attention to the size of the front rows, but the Widnes pack tired more than ours. That last 10 minutes we cut them to ribbons up the middle.

And as per a recent comment- we have LMS(looking strong and fit- determined to fill Jammers boots), Cloughie-mobile and strong and seriously underated outside Redvee sometimes, Maggenis-who has previously shown talent and Perry,TP,Sia etc to fill the forwards and we could play extra minutes than most SL teams- we just need to hone this to pasting teams in the last twenty when they get tired?

Exactly what we said, pack looks small / light but yes, very mobile as always. If LMS gets hair cut well be lighter still.
We need to bulk up a bit but unlikely as heavier players may suffer in the semi tropical heat of a St helens summer.

I think that the modern player is a leaner faster being than the big blokes of yesteryear that got by on brawn. Must say when you get up near them they still look pretty awesome.

I thought we looked light in the front row.

Is all very well having a team of mobile forwards but at times need the route 1 approach.

IMO the ideal is when sign forwards who are big and mobile a la Perelini, Matautia etc

After last season am a bit nervous pinning our hopes on Josh Perry - although good to see him out on Friday and fingers crossed we see the best of him this year

i have to agree with the OP. we could do with a bit more bulk imo. for his size puletua's reluctant to carry the ball in our own 20 yards and sia's more of a wide runner. we need big seasons from lms, clough and perry. our smaller backs like hoihaio, lomax and makinson will need the protection.
