They may lay claim to every chant/song ever made, and they can do that all they like, doesn't mean its theirs.

Every terrace chant 'tune' is copied eventually, with the words being changed to suit the particular team.

This has always been the way

Now all get learning your Bob Marley Lyrics
I think we have enough songs of our own not to go and pinch one of Wigan's songs. We've been singing Saint until I die for as long as I can remember and we have enough of our own songs to not go ripping off one of our biggest rival's only songs just for the sake of it, and I've never heard anyone else apart from Arsenal sing that one. In my opinion we have enough general songs about Saints but need more individual player songs.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Half the football league sing it...

Example(s): "And its Everton/Arsenal/Stoke/Tottenham/QPR/Chelsea/etc... *Team Name FC"... We're by far...

I remember singing Just Can't Get Enough at Wigan in the first play-off game 2011, Some bloke starts booing saying "shut the **** up, its a wigan song".
To which I replied "Wigan don't score tries in a vee that is red do they?". But in the end we discovered the real reason for his 'big man act' as he unveiled his Glasgow Rangers shirt during the second half

At the end of the day, there are only 4/5 chant 'tunes', to which each set of supporters will adapt to suit their teams. If it makes some noise, do it!

When we kicked Wigan's ass in the semi final playoff to knock them out last season I went into the bar underneath the Widnes stadium and had a few drinks!! When in there the atmosphere was excellent.........the drinks were flowing and the songs were being sung by all....(apart from the family on one table who had booked a table for a birhtday party which was subsequently crashed by hoards of singing drunk saints fans!!! - Good time!)

    Anyhow!

A couple of things make for a good song in my opinion.

    1. Ease of noise creation - Volume!
    2. Ease to learn
    3. Ease of repetition
    4. Allowance of people to join in - Well known song choice

With this in mind, one of the songs that was being sung in this bar on that night was "Sex on Fire" by the Kings of Leon....

This was obviously changed to the following for the chorus and sounded absolutly brilliant once everyone in the bar joined in (which didn't take long at all!!)

OoooooooooooOoooooooooohhhh - THE SAINTS ARE ON FIRE!!

OoooooooooooOoooooooooohhhh - THE SAINTS ARE ON FIRE!!..............and so on!!!

We could even add the following

OoooooooooooOoooooooooohhhh - TRY'S FROM LANCE HOHIA

As said above this first part was tried and tested and sounded bloody good - with a massive crowd singing it we could make it sound really good, it could also be merged into Ooooooohhhh When the Saints also!

Yep! Sang it back in the 70's and 80's. And we used to sing "And It's St. Helens, St.Helens FC" - Maybe change it to St.Helens RFC? Still rolls off the tongue.

Just been thinking about the Chelsea song were they repeat 'Chelsea', how about doing that for Lomax or another 2 syllable named player e.g Wilkin.

Wouldn't necessarily be a good song but it sounds good at Stamford Bridge and it is easy enough for all fans to remember as its just a surname. Anyway it's just a suggestion ;P

some may cringe, but bored in work today and changed lyrics to Heaven (DJ Sammy or Bryan Adams)

Oh thinking about our younger years,
When we played at Knowsley Road,
And the trophies we have won.

No nothing is gonna stop us now,
Our new home is Langtree Park,
    And its Heaven.

    Eammon:Its all we want,
    The best ground in Superleague,
Now you're gonna believe- We're in heaven
    -------------------------------------------------

To the recent tune of 'Read all about It' by professor Green (Chorus only)

I wanna sing, wanna shout, let 'Oh when the Saints sing out'
Look in all of the papers, Saturday morning
And read all about it, read all about it, Oh
Oh Oh Oh, Oh, Oh Oh Oh, Oh..... maybe even go into Oh when the Saints?????

Hope you lot don't cringe too much??

I don't mind this but it is one of those were most fans wouldn't sing until it got to 'Oh When the Saints...' part.

Been having a little think about a new song that could incorporate the famous 'Knowsley Road'
To the tune of 'Viva Ronaldo, Viva Ronaldo' - THE SONG HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH UNITED MIND YOU.

It's a simple, catchy tune that when sung could be repeated on and on and on and could add to the atmosphere. Here goes..

    Viva St.Helens
    Viva St.Helens
    We Came From Knowsley Road
    Where The Rugby Flowed
    Viva St.Helens

    (Repeated)

As a Utd fan, the Viva Ronaldo song is one of the best I have ever heard but due to the tribalism involved in football, you would get the Liverpool and Everton Saints fans (and City) refusing to sing it because of the Utd connotations. I think it would sound great though personally.

Perhaps one or two would refuse to sing it but hopefully the majority would not think of it that way.
I am sure a lot of tunes or used by rival clubs.
I am a Liverpool fan but I would happily sing along to that.

Reacher I too am a United fan (In mourning). I mentioned the fact it was nowt to do with United because I also share your concerns, but as Hazzo21 says, it's only the tune that's the same. the song has no links whatsoever to football, it's just a quick ditty about KR that's easy to learn and catchy. Well I hope so anyway. Clapping along to the song and repeating for several minutes, I thought it might catch on.

    'Viva St.Helens......'
