Default Football - off season antics

With the season over, i just had a quick look back to the start of the last thread. It seems Old king Cole didnt turn out to be the bargain a lot of us thought he would be ?? I think he could be on his way in the summer - I didnt think i would be saying that back in August.
And on the eighth day he created The Saints and he said " Go forth and entertain !"

Funny how things turn out isn't it!

I was one who thought Cole would be a cracking signing for Liverpool and also thought Jovanovic would be a good un too! My credibility must come into question based on that alone! Fair play to Wabo - he called it as not being the transfer people were making it out to be. Looking back I think i'd have swapped Cole for Hernandez at teh beginning of teh season - just shows how wrong you can be doesn't it!

Anyway back to yesterday - was a weird one really, I wanted Blackpool and Holloway to stay in th PL and at 2-2 was happy, I was then gutted for Evatt to score and OG that would perhaps send them down and then made up Michael Owen scored because it wasn't just down to that OG and also Michael Owen has been teh consumate professional this season and fully deserved that. His interview after it was class and i think he perhaps finally won over even the most ardent doubters! For anybody that didn't see it it was basically a "If you can't beat them join em" quote which will no doubt end up on t-shirts in a nice dig at our Merseyside rivals.

Just placed a bet for next season,Liverpool to win the Prem at 14/1 good odds.
The bloke explained it to me very nicely in the shop saying If I bet £10 I will lose £10 pounds....nice of him to take the time ?

Jolly honest of him.. even as an lfc fan, I think next year is still too early for us. I think we're a strikers, two midfielders and 2 defenderd short. Not necessarily the first 11 but just the squad

If I was at Liverpool i'd do the following,

    Out
    Agger
    Jovanovic
    Cole
    Ngog
    Poulsen
    Aquilani

    In
    Danns
    Johnson
    Enrique
    Ba
    Parker
    Nzogbia

A bit extreme and fantasy football like but given the money you could make on sales and save in wages plus the money the board are willing to pump in it's completely possible.

wouldnt argue or be to bothered about the OUTS, But from the INNS, i would only have Nzogbia and even then i wouldnt want to pay silly money for him.
I think Comolli has a great eye for talent and i would trust his picks. I think No 1 priority has to be left wing/midfield and then a centre back.
There is a lot of talk about a player called hazzard (not sure on the spelling) linked with us and a few others, not seen him play at all but apparently has just picked up player of the year at his club ???
And on the eighth day he created The Saints and he said " Go forth and entertain !"

I'd keep Agger but his fitness is a problem.

A 4-1 win for Utd's youth team last night in the final of the FA Youth Cup. Having watched the game, its clear that this is the finest crop of youngsters to come through since 92. Pogba, Tunnicliffe, Keane and Morrison have a real chance.

Morrison and Keane scored 2 each last night, so its looking good for the future. Morrison is such a telent, I really hope he sorts his head out, he can achieve what he wants in the game.

These lads, plus Welbeck and Cleverley returning and 3 new signings mean that we will be the team to beat again next season IMO.

It was a cracking game wasn't it, in fairness to the Sheffield lads they have some talented players but we just looked a class above. Ravell Morrison has all the world but has that 'bad boy' gangster mentality which will be his downfall if he doesn't sort it out. The run he made to win the penalty was class, went past a couple of men like they weren't there and got a cross in to boot.

He's for me the outstanding talent but the players you've mentioned have every chance too, Tunnicliffe looks like a good old fashioned box to box midfielder and Pogba looks so assured it's untrue - he has a knack of playing the killer pass which makes him a danger. I've not seen as much of Will keane as the others but he looked confident and in scoring his second looked like an assured finisher.

I'd have liked to see John Cofie get more minutes too - he looks like a class act too.

We've got enough young talent at the club I believe to ensure the next 10 years will be just as successful as the last 10, players like Fabio, Rafael, Smalling, Hernandez, Anderson, Cleverley, Welbeck are all experienced and proven premiership players who are all under 23 who will be the nucleus of SAF's next great team!

Just read a reaport suggesting David de Gea is lined up to sign next week from Atletico, Could potentially be the main man for us for the next 15-20 years but at such a young age you've got to hope he comes in and handles the pressure he'd be under in replacing VDS and being a high value signing. I've said in the past Stekelenberg would be my choice but if the club think De Gea is the man then i'll have no complaints.

United have a habbit of announcing signnigs quite early in teh off season and I suspect that should we lose at the weekend we'll find out quite quickly after who we're signing. Interestingly enough Sergio Aguero has come out today and said he's after leaving Atletico this summer too - I can't see us signing him because we don't really need a striker but he's a world class talent who is available and could be worth a look at to keep him from City who are probably favourites to sign him.

Seems like de Gea is a definite now then with SAF coming out and pretty much saying so last night. If it come off then 17m will in time be looked at as a snip, he could easily be our first choice keeper now for the 15 years and in that respect £17m is a bit of a bargain!

The one thing I suspect that has helped SAF decide that 20 isn’t too young is his performances in the games against Barca and Mardrid. I saw one of them but from all accounts in each of the games he’s not showed any signed of nerves or weakness which you’d expect from a young kid. At 20 too he’s surprisingly pretty experienced in being first choice at a decent Spanish club and has played in a European Cup final so has big game experience.

Exciting times really – our back 5 could perhaps have 4 places now tied up for the next ten seasons With de Gea, the twins and Smalling with strong talk of a young French kid Varane coming in to maybe make that 5.

On the opposite end of the scale last night as a United fan was amazing! Seeing the Nevilles, Scholes, Giggs, Beckham and Butt playing together was so good. An unbelievable generation!

I have to say too any other sporting event between now and Saturday has pretty much slipped right off the radar! That’s including Origin today and Saints on Friday! The Champs League final is the only thing on my mind and nerves have definitely set in!

Its been in the bag for months to be fair but nice to see Fergie confirm it. It also goes against his policy of playing experienced keepers although to be fair he is an exceptional talent.

My only worry with the Spanish, Portugese, Brazilians etc is that they never seem to stay long term bar the odd exceptions such as Reina, Anderson etc. The weather, culture etc is so different that I really can't see De Gea staying for 10-15 yrs but who knows.

As for Saturday, I am quite relaxed. The priority for me was No.19 and we have achieved that. We are playing the best club side ever so if we lose, it won't be a disgrace, but part of me knows that we can win. Am just looking forward to it.

It has but I was swayed with Stekelenberg only because I thought at 20 De Gea would as you say go against our policy with keepers but everything points to this guy being the real deal. I know what you mean regarding the culture issue but we’re apparently bringing his family over so that eliminates an element of home sickness. As you say though you just never know how a player will settle – I might be biased but at United they seem to make it easier for players to settle in and be incorporated into the team, a family like system. Hernandez looks like he’s been here for years and is so at ease but has only been there less than a year.

Time will tell I guess but it’ll be good to see him at the club!

I wish I was relaxed over Saturday! I refuse to go in with the attitude ‘if we lose then so be it they are that good’ because it for me seems defeatist (I’m not saying that about you but it’s how I feel personally if that makes sense!). I fully believe that we’ve learnt lessons from previous ties with them and are mentally in a good place going into the game. I guess the fact we’ve pretty much been written off already by all and sundry is getting to me too, I’m going to go all Keegan-esque now but I’d love it if we beat them, I really would. I know too though all too well that we’ll be given no credite from anyone if we win, it will be down to a Barca poor showing.

I’m never like this usually about games but it’s probably been growing all season with the constant talk of us being an average team etc etc, and it appears to have hit a nerve with the players too. I’m gonna stop now because I’m getting worked up again about it and the next few days are going to be bad enough as it is! ha

Say what you want about my love fest for the worlds best club team ever, but I think we all agree, lets hope this guy lights up the stage. Win or Lose, United fans, we have both had a great season and good luck for saturday. Liverpool or city fans need not reply to this post, this post is from champions to champions, not has beens or wannabes.

I do think Utd have a decent chance this time. Barca are not unbeatable and Utd have to capitalise on Mascherano at CB and possibly Puyol at LB. Valencia will skin him if thats the case. Park and Valencia need to do what they do best and track back, with Giggs using his experience to keep possession. Once you lose possession against Barca its a bloody long time before you get it back again. Whilst they have some truly excellent players, Rooney and Hernandez will cause them problems.

One thing is for certain, we will put in a better performance than in 09.

Ferdinand must be happy. Toure provides positive drugs test result and gets 6 months backdated including months where the season has ended.

Ferdinand was never even found guilty of providing a positive result and got 9 months.

Madness. And yet of course Utd get everything.

Yeah good luck to you and your team!

I'm so anxious about this game it's untrue.

I've found myself over analysing the game over and over and I really just need the game to arrive to stop me!

And you wonder why everyone detests united when their newest song is

We are you united we do what we want

And their manager can't shut his gob telling the press officer he wants a journalist banned. The idiot didn't know it would be ran by uefa.

Come on barca. The red part of Liverpool will be shouting for barca the bluenoses can continue their love in with all things united
