Deflated? Were you expecting the new Wembley or something? The ground looks fantastic, is very high-spec with all the revenue-boosting bells on you could wish for, and it's owned by, and branded exclusively for, St Helens RLFC.

More than worth a year on the road at Widnes.

Can anyone scan, or give us the jist, of the leaflet that was handed out at the turnstiles? Don't seem to have come across one of these.

    It begins:

Hallelujah!! The building contractor for the stadium, Barr Construction, has now been appointed and remediation and construction works will start shortly.

There's a bit of blurb about our dream coming true, etc, then how the Council and the club have been helping each other out along with Langtree and NWDA. Kissy, kissy, that kind of thing.

Then it says This will necessarily mean that we will be playing at The Halton Stadium for a season. Knowsley Road cannot function for another year. We aim to repay the loyalty of fans who buy season tickets for next year with priority choice of seats in the new stadium and to give you privileged pricing for your season tickets in the new stadium

Some blurb about how great Widnes' stadium is and how Saints are urging fans to get behind the club and team, etc.

We are also looking at all practical means to ensure ease of transport for you all. The Club will be making a series of supporter and sponsor presentations to give full details on the stadium and on our fantastic season ticket offerings which link the season at The Halton Stadium with the early seasons in the new stadium

    The flyer goes on ...

I am confident that we will field a squad that is more than capable of winning silverware for a number of years to come and that next year's team will be even stronger than this year's.

They need and deserve your support so let's all get behind the cause next season at The Halton Stadium and work together to build a better club for a better town. We are also very close to announcing a new head coach for next year and, again, I am confident that we will provide you with high quality, winning rugby league next season and beyond.

That's it in a nutshell. There were nine paragraphs in total and I've quoted the important ones!

I'd agree on all points about that.

The only downside for me is the link between specific seats and season tickets. I think it would be better to have a seat guaranteed but anywhere in the stadium rather than a specific seat.

    ... !

What's the general opinion on this? It looks like a good deal to me but is it enough to change the opinion of those people who were not going to renew for a year?

I think it's enough to entice quite a few. I suppose it depends on what people think the attendance would be in new ground and may edge their bets. Strange question but do you think we'd be a full house at the new ground more or would we be by half season in be wondering why were not selling out(another debate maybe). Either way it's good news today and hopefully in a few week we'll see some action.

Can anybody shed any light on the 5 seasons for 4 offer? Is that just on a monthly payment plan or what?

I think you will still pay for 5 seasons (or over 5 seasons) but have a 20% reduction. I don't think they will give a "free" year as one of the Saints staff implied when I was speaking to him.

What happens to someone who is 13/14 years of age now and pays up front for 5 years. Do they get every season as a junior?

Thanks very much for taking the time to post that, Wanderer.

http://www.barr.co.uk/morestadia.html Barr have certainly worked on their fair share of stadium developments.

There is no actual physical stadium model, however there is a presentation video in touchlines at Saints ground.

discussed this at the match today, i attend with family who are all season ticket holders, they will no doubt all get season tickets in the stadium.. due to work i'll miss about 4 games a year, does that mean i'll have to sit on my own. i appreciate that sounds selfish but you can see it limits people who might want to take their wives/mates/kids to the odd match

i know that there'll be enough spare seats to sit elsewhere

don't get me wrong i'm not having a dig at the club, just suggesting some things. you'd also suggest with unreserved seating people would get on the ground earlier, spending money in the kiosks

maybe one side could be reserved and the other unreserved?

    From the Saints website -

It will also be open from 4pm on Monday until 7.30pm and from 12pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The exhibition will then remain open for a fortnight (12pm to 7.30pm weekdays) and will be in Church Square on Saturday July 24 from 12pm to 4pm.

What's the breakdown in ownership? Saints will own the stadium? aye? I'm having difficulty explaining it to Goons on RLFans.

I'm sure that is the case.

It is funded by the Club, the Council, the NWDA and Tesco IIRC, but the club will own the stadium lock stock & barrel

But McManus basically said most of what was on the leaflet handed out at the turnstiles, plus a bit of sucking up to the fans! It was interesting how he talked to the pop side rather than the stand. Maybe he got wind of how die hard fans were getting a little fed up of not hearing anything.

I like what it says on the flyer handed out, especially the bit about how we will have a better team next year or something.
load of bolocks it would never have happened only for the council leader, it was her who got Tesco on board in the first place, the Lib Con council only follwed the path already set out by the last Labour Council.
It was the labour council who in the first place gave the land behind the main stand as part of the redevelopement of KR, it was Labour plans for the redevelopement of Market street that enable's Tesco to redevelope their old site, a crucial part of the whole concept.

Lock stock and barrel is correct, what people seem to forget Langtree only aquired this site on the understanding that they would provide a stadium for St Helens RLC. Langtree will make a shed full of money from Tesco, its part of this profit that will help fund the stadium, as will Tesco make a load of money from redeveloping their current site.

I remember the quotes for when Labour were previously in power, when they refused to provide Government money to help facilitiate what they regarded as a private project

Labour got chucked out of the council and a liberal Tory Coalition took over and the running a few years back, and thankfully they were not obsessed with creating a socialist peoples republic of St.Helens. The liberals and Tories understood how public money can be used to help promote a private development. Hence the council put in millions to ensure this development went ahead.

Unfortunately Labour got back in power at the last election in May and hence we have Rimmer and her clan now claiming the glory.

And here's me thinking your a clever lad.
The Maly Kay stadium fiasco, was doomed to failure before it even started. If the then Labour council would have backed that project you wouldn't be rejoicing now, it was rejected by the senior officers of the council at the time, the Labour Council took their veiws on board (they have to) and refused to back it.
Marie Rimmer even in them days was working towards a new stadium, but she wasnt about to back a lame duck, it would have put this stadium back 3 years.
Funny enough it was about this time our current chairman came on board behind the scenes sorting out the finances.
This stadium wouldnt have happened only for the Labour Council, and the chairman

Just another point, Labour getting chucked out as you say, cost this town 10,000 well paid jobs when the Lib Cons refused to back the Parkside project.

Regardless of the "facts" which I'm sure people can back up with proof, the long and short of it is that everyone who was at the match and heard Eamonn's announcement, had to endure Marie Rimmer loving the sound of her own voice as she went on and on and on, not knowing when to stop flagellating the crowd and yes, in my opinion she did make it sound like we should all drop on one knee and kiss her ring.

Just been reading the article at http://www.saintsrlfc.com/news/2690 and towards the bottom it reads (and pay attention to the underlined) "Fans will be able to see a fantastic 3D walk-through and a new identity for your super Saints as they look forward to a new era."

Thinking of the name "Saints RL" and the fact that some people have said that the new badge/logo will just be a corporate one but this makes me think otherwise.
