KNOWSLEY ROAD 1890-2010. A part of history soon to be no more...the place that meant so much to so many people. Farewell old lady, forever in our hearts.

After spending many a SUnday afternoon there as man and boy, it is a little sad seeing pictures of the old girl being torn down. Thanks for you guys taking the time and trouble taking pics for those of us less fortunate to be thousands of miles away. I am looking forward to visiting the new stadium next season when I come back to UK for a trip.
well move up dont take all the best spots !!![]()

Mineshafts?! If there were any there I would have thought they'd have been capped a long time ago. They look like borehole rigs for site investigation work. They take soil reports down to fairly deep levels to find out what type of ground it is, how dense etc. They'll do several boreholes all over the site once the rest has been cleared. Normal practice before all construction work on unknown sites in order to selcet the type of foundation needed.
Drove past last night but too dark to see clearly. Good pictures though, but very sad.
Don't shoot the messenger, it's just what i was told by the Taylor Wimpey guy....TBH it looks more like what you just described but i'm no expert.
I've just driven past the ground and it doesn't look like they've knocked down anything else other than the wall and turnstiles in the corner where the big screen was

The mine shaft are under the popular side stand, thats what I read or heard.
I have read somewhere too that there used to be mine workings in that area.
Looks really sad now seeing the photos of the old girl with gaping holes. Thanks for posting them. Really glad I managed to take a load of pics on my last visit to St.Helens. Doubt there will be much left on my next visit.
I have still a lot of interior shots that I hav,t posted yet. I will probably put some more up after the demolition is finished.
